At the 2024 Paris Olympics, Fink said that the couple was expecting their first child together while speaking with reporters during a press conference in Paris on Aug. 4. Just before, Fink won the silver medal in the men's 4x100-meter medley relay.
Addressing the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles, Fink highlighted that his baby on the way will probably get his immediate attention.
"I'm going straight back and getting ready for baby time," said Fink, joking, "I'm kind of out of the frying pan into the fire here."
He's "more focused on" getting ready for the baby, which he said is "something even cooler than the Olympics, believe it or not."
Said Fink, "L.A. seems really far away and I felt like I was pushing my age cliff a lot these past couple of years. . . . But . . . you never know."
Fink's wife Melanie, 32, is a former Olympic swimmer, but now works as an assistant swim coach at Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas, where the couple lives. She won gold in the women's 4x200-meter freestyle relay in Rio in 2016. Fink's day job is for Quanta Utility Engineering Services, the Today show reported.
"We're excited about what's coming up," he told Today on July 29. "As fun as all this experience is, it's going to be a really cool rest of the summer and beyond."
During the Paris Games, Fink tied for a silver in the men’s 100-meter breaststroke final. In the mixed 4x100-meter medley, Fink and his teammates — Gretchen Walsh, Murphy and Torri Huske — earned a gold while setting a new world record. He also took home a silver medal in the men's 4x100-meter medley relay.
