Melbourne Storm star under investigation over violent Bali street brawl

The NRL's integrity unit is investigating video footage of a brawl on a Bali street involving Melbourne Storm player Nelson Asofa-Solomona.

Footage of the incident was shared on social media on Sunday, the altercation occurring in a busy holiday area and went from the footpath onto the busy street.

The NRL is speaking with the Storm about the matter.

"Melbourne Storm has reported an incident involving a member of our NRL squad currently on holidays in Bali to the NRL's integrity unit," the club said on Sunday night in a statement.

"Storm has launched a full investigation into what has occurred.

"Storm takes these type of incidents very seriously and will not be making any further public comment at this time."

Was Asofa-Solomona provoked?

Asofa-Solomona landed back in Melbourne on Monday morning after the Storm got wind of the incident.

“My side of the story will be told soon,” he told Channel 7 at Melbourne Airport.

The owner of a nightclub near where the incident occurred has since defended Asofa-Solomona, suggesting he was provoked.

La Favela owner Gonzalo Assiego released CCTV vision to Channel Nine which he says shows another Melbourne player being attacked inside the club before things spilled onto the street.

According to The Daily Telegraph it was winger Suliasi Vunivalu who was “king hit”.

“It’s so bad because they don’t see the reality (of) what happened before,” Assiego told 9 News.

“His reaction was aggressive for sure but … I feel sorry for him.”
