'So proud': NRL great breaks down in tears after son reveals his debut

Penrith young gun Jed Cartwright, son of club legend John, found out he would be making his NRL debut this weekend and shared a touching moment with his father when sharing the news.

The Panthers filmed Jed calling his father to announce he would make the squad to face the Titans on Friday and his father couldn’t hold back the tears.

“I’m making my debut against the Titans,” the 22-year-old youngster told his father on the phone.

“You’re joking,” his father said.

“No...are you serious?”

‘Oh buddy, that’s the best news. I am so proud of you,” an emotional John added.

“Tell them to put a little bit of that hill aside for me.

“That’s bloody wonderful.”

John made his debut for the Panthers back in 1985 and went on to play 184 games in the NRL for the club.

He is also currently the assistant coach at Manly.
