NRL legend Benji Marshall and his wife have extra reason to celebrate this Christmas after making a momentous personal announcement on social media.

Zoe Marshall took to Instagram on Tuesday to reveal that she and her league great husband are pregnant with the couple's second child.

Uploading a photo of the ultrasound, Zoe admitted it had been incredibly hard keeping the exciting news a secret and that she'd had to shut herself off social media for fear of giving it away.

“It’s really bloody hard for me to keep a secret. That’s why I’ve hardly been on Instagram or sharing stories because I don’t trust myself that it would just slip out,” she wrote.

“So it’s time. I’ve been incredibly sick and isolated for the last 11 weeks because of this little monkey. I’m sharing this and so much vital information I learnt from this season on today’s episode.

“I look forward to being honest and sharing the good, bad and really ugly bits of this time with you all. Mini marshall due day before my birthday (god help me another Gemini) June 2021.”

Wonderful news follows past struggles

Zoe uploaded three audio clips alongside the ultrasound photos that are from her podcast, The Deep.

In it, she talks about the mental battles that people frequently face, but rarely feel empowered to speak about.

She also revealed Benji's reluctance to announce their baby news earlier because of previous complications the couple has had.

“He’s just been very private in general,” Zoe said.

At one point Zoe never thought she'd become a mum after suffering severe stage-four endometriosis.

Following numerous procedures and the expert advice of doctors, Zoe eventually fell pregnant at age 33, before giving birth to the couple's son, Fox.

Zoe and Benji now have added incentive to celebrate Christmas in the knowledge that they'll be welcoming another member to the family in June, 2021.
