Jed Cartwright has declared he wasn't sledged by Panthers trainer Pete Green about a back injury he suffered during his time at the club, despite his father calling for Green to receive a life ban.

Green is at the centre of controversy before the NRL grand final for the second year running after South Sydney officials claimed he sledged Cartwright during the preliminary final last weekend.

Cody Walker was captured giving Green a spray after the Rabbitohs' 32-12 loss to the Panthers, with Souths officials later claiming that Walker was upset about an alleged sledge directed towards Cartwright.

Cartwright's father John declared on Monday that Green should be handed a life ban for his actions, but Cartwright has since given his version of events.

According to the Sydney Morning Herald, Cartwright has no issue with Green's actions and says he wasn't sledged about his back injury - which was treated by Green while he was playing for Penrith.

"It's just been blown out of proportion," Cartwright said.

"I am good mates with Pete. We got along real well when I was at Penrith. He never said anything about my back. He just said something about the tackle that I made.

"We spoke about it after the game and we have since texted about it and we're all good. I'm ready to move on and he's ready to move on. That's it. He said nothing about my back.

"I just went up to him and spoke about what I heard and what he told me and then we put it to bed then and there. It's been blown up from that."

Cartwright's father John, who previously played for and coached the Panthers, lashed out at Green on Monday.

“It’s the lowest act in the game – the lowest of the low. That’s not on. You shouldn’t have to cop any sledge off a f…ing trainer,” John Cartwright told The Daily Telegraph.

“The game is hard enough without copping it from someone you can’t have a crack back at. It’s the height of being a coward.

“If there’s a bloke out there running with privilege, and he is privileged to be doing the job that he does, but if he’s sledging opposition players, then, as I said, he should be barred for life. I thought Jed had a great game - he didn’t deserve that."

Cartwright said he has since spoken to his father and put the matter to rest.

According to reports, neither team has filed a complaint to the NRL and are happy to move on.

Panthers five-eighth Jarome Luai was asked about the furore at an open training session on Tuesday.

" He's one of the best physios I've ever met and worked with," Luai said.

"If anyone is going through something tough like that, all the boys get around him.

"He's sweet, he's a loveable guy and we all love him.

"When anything is said bad about a person who you know is an awesome guy, and does a lot for the team and the community... it's pretty sad to see."

Green was involved in controversy ahead of the grand final last year when the NRL deemed he illegally asked for play to be stopped during Penrith's win over Parramatta in the preliminary final.

The incident occurred while the Eels were attacking the Panthers' line late in the match, halting their momentum.

Green was then fined and banned from participating in the grand final.
