Why this photo has sparked nasty rumours about Novak Djokovic's marriage

Nasty rumours are swirling about Novak Djokovic’s marriage after his wife and kids weren’t spotted at Wimbledon last week.

Djokovic trumped Roger Federer in the final at the All England Club to secure his 15th grand slam crown, edging closer to the Swiss great’s record of 20.

However his wife Jelena wasn’t there to see it.

In stark contrast to the 2018 edition of Wimbledon, as well as the French Open just a few months ago, Jelena wasn’t in the stands at all throughout the two-week tournament.

Jelana was in London however, posting a pic of her kids walking though a field - the location of which was tagged as Wimbledon.

Son Stefan was there watching on with Djokovic’s parents, but Jelena and one-year-old daughter Tara were not.

“It’s extra special sharing it with my son in the crowd and my parents, the whole team” Djokovic said in his victory speech.

“My wife and my daughter are here in London, but they’re at home. So I give them a big, big hug.”

Wimbledon enforces a strict policy that children under 5 are not allowed to attend matches, which may explain why Jelena and Tara stayed away.

However players like Djokovic and Roger Federer have brought their infants to the All England Club grounds in the past, but left them to be minded in quieter areas while they play.

We saw Djokovic do this with Stefan during last year’s Wimbledon final, and Federer does it with twin boys Lenny and Leo.

According to The Sun, Jelana also wasn’t in attendance for the Wimbledon Champions Ball, which traditionally sees winners accompanied by their partners.

The Sun also quoted a source as saying: “Jelena has always been Novak’s rock but there is speculation that they could be having problems.

“To not attend a single Wimbledon match is quite a statement for someone usually so quick to share her pride in his success and how strong they are together.”

Fans were also wondering why Jelena wasn’t in attendance this year.

Djokovic: They are my dearest people

Regardless, it seems particularly unfair to question their marriage.

What if Tara was sick? What if Jelena was sick?

There could be a number of different reasons that we don’t know about.

Djokovic has previously paid emotional tributes to Jelena for helping him through a mystifying stretch from 2016 - 2018 in which he plummeted in the rankings.

“Trophies are even more special when I have someone so dear and so special to me in my life to share this with,” he said after winning the Australian Open in January.

“They are my dearest people on this planet next to my two brothers and my parents.

“I love them very much. I want to thank them for unconditional love and support through all these years.

“They’ve sacrificed a lot of their time and energy for me to live my dream to be standing here today and I try to always remind myself and not take that for granted.”
