North Koreans celebrate state founder’s birthday

The "Day of the Sun" which falls on April 15th is the birthday of current leader Kim Jong Un's grandfather, Kim Il Sung, is the biggest holiday of the year in the North. Kim Il Sung led his country from its founding in 1948, through the 1950-53 Korean War, until he died in 1994 and his son Kim Jong Il took over.
