Nick Foles expected to return to practice after suffering collarbone injury in Week 1

Minshew Mania might be coming to an end soon. Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Nick Foles will practice with the team Wednesday after missing multiple weeks due to a broken collarbone, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.

Foles, 30, is expected to be a limited participant in practice. Since he was placed on injured reserve, Foles is not eligible to return until Week 11. The plan is to activate Foles in Week 11, according to Rapoport.

In Foles’ absence, rookie sixth-round pick Gardner Minshew has stepped up as the team’s starter. He has already become a fan favorite thanks to his mustache and gutsy playing style. Those traits had some wondering whether Foles would get his job back once he was healthy.

While Minshew got off to a strong start after taking over, he has cooled down over the past two games. In his first five games, Minshew had a 9-1 touchdown-to-interception ratio. He completed 66.7 percent of his passes over that period. The past two weeks, Minshew has thrown one touchdown and one interception while completing just 47.5 percent of his passes.

Minshew’s recent performance has opened the door for Foles to sneak back into the starting conversation. The team always expected that to be the case after signing Foles to a four-year, $88 million deal in the offseason.

Minshew has a chance to change that narrative in the coming weeks. The Jaguars take on the New York Jets and Houston Texans in Weeks 8 and 9, respectively. Both defenses have been susceptible to the pass this season.

Even if Minshew performs well in those games, it might not be enough to keep Foles off the field. While Minshew has shown plenty of promise this season, the Jaguars paid Foles a lot of money to be their guy.
