Heavy rain causes chaos and injury in Miami

The Miami Dolphins' win over the Arizona Cardinals proved an eventful encounter, especially for Miami quarterback Ryan Tannehill.

Before Andrew Franks secured a 26-23 win for the Dolphins with a field goal in the dying seconds, this is what went down.

Rain started falling early in the game and Tannehill immediately found it tough, turning the ball over just yards away from the end zone.

Both teams had trouble holding on to the ball as the rain continued to come down.

The Cardinals turned the ball over four times in the first half, and Tannehill was lucky that this stray pass didn't end up in Arizona hands.

The Dolphins extended their lead early in the third quarter, and given the weather they were becoming more and more likely to secure the victory.

Those chances dipped immensely when Tannehill suffered a desperately unlucky ACL injury after being blitzed by Cardinals defender Calais Campbell.

With Tannehill on the sideline, reserve quarterback Matt Moore joined the game in a tough spot.

Miami extended their lead when they blocked an Arizona extra point and returned it for two points, but Arizona kept coming and eventually levelled the scores at 23 apiece.

That's when things got hairy.

The consistent rain turned into a downpour, and the game's clutch moments were going to be decided by heavy footballs.

Teammates continued to console the injured Tannehill on the bench, with the quarterback seen crying as he contemplated a year in the rehab room.

The Dolphins, however, were comfortable in the wet.

Moore moved the ball down the field and got Miami into the perfect position for a game-winning field goal, though it wouldn't be easy in the rain.

Andrew Franks stepped up, ending the Dolphins' disaster of a day on a high to keep their playoff hopes alive.
