NFL streakers get the commentary treatment

You might not believe it but NFL commentators occasionally have a rough night, especially if there's a poor team getting whacked by a stronger opponent.

That was the case for this week's edition of Monday Night Football as the middle-of-the-road Indianapolis Colts defeated the New York Jets 41-10.

But there was a minute of excitement early in the third quarter when, with the Jets on offence looking to reduce a 28-point deficit, two fans ran onto the field.

Westwood One radio commentator Boomer Esiason started the call.

"Well that was the biggest cheer of the night as we got a of couple idiots running out on the field right now," he said.

"Taking their shirts off, running all over the place and the last person I would want to run into is a New Jersey state trooper."

Midway through that sentence, the first fan was speared to the ground by security - and in came Kevin Harlan.

"OOOOOOOHHHHHHH! Did you see that tackle? OH! and the other guy is knocked down!" screamed Harlan.

Esiason, a former NFL MVP who played three seasons with the Jets in the 1990s, then ran with a line plenty of smarter fans must have been thinking.

"They're actually hitting harder than the Jets defence," he said.

"I'll tell you, that one kid may be just absolutely knocked out on the 26-yard line."

While Esiason took the lead on this call, the NFL has seen enough drunk fans jump the fence that Harlan already had his time to shine.

In the first week of the season, with the Los Angeles Rams in the process of being thumped by the now-slumping San Francisco 49ers, Harlan went over and above when one fool disrupted the game.
