NFL star penalised for 'celebration of the season'

NFL player Tyreek Hill scored a record-setting touchdown before proceeding to pull off the ‘celebration of the season’ – and it’s only week 10.

The Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver scored two memorable touchdowns during his team’s 26-14 win over the Arizona Cardinals, with the latter delivering a record to quarterback Patrick Mahomes.

Mahomes will always have some special television footage of that moment, because Hill celebrated by leaping into the stands and commandeering a broadcast camera to film it.

The incredible act was praised by social media user online for what has been deemed the best in the NFL so far:

But reality is, Hill was penalised for his gutsy effort – earning him an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty from the officials and a sharp rebuke from coach Andy Reid – and will most likely face a fine later in the week.

“The celebration just came into my head,” Hill said.

“For him (Mahomes) to come in and do that, that’s amazing, man. People doubted him – ‘He wasn’t going to do this, he wasn’t going to do that’.

“I’m proud of him.”

Mahomes threw for 249 yards at was too with two touchdown (TD) strikes to Hill, but it was the second one that sent the Chiefs’ first-year starter past Hall of Famer Len Dawson for the single-season TD record.

The footage of Hill’s camera handy-work has also been doing the rounds on social media:

In an amazing twist, the incredible celebration wasn’t even Hill’s first trip to the stands during the match – with the 24-year-old not just slapping high-fives with fans after his first, but getting right up in there with them.

Hill had seven catches for 117 yards.

But his coach wasn’t overly impressed with the exuberant celebration.

“That was too much,” Reid said, hiding a smile.

“I was not happy.”

Teammate Kareem Hunt pounded his way for 71 yards rushing.

The defence came up with five sacks and two picks. And the Chiefs’ special teams were nearly perfect, helping to keep the Cardinals (2-7) winless in six meetings at Arrowhead Stadium.

“It was definitely a grind out there,” Hunt said,

“Definitely a team that was trying to come up big in a big-time win to get their program back on track, but most importantly we got the win.”
