NFL free agency Day 1 recap: The biggest 2025 signings, grades and more

The NFL free agency madness from Day 1 of the 2025 legal tampering period is over.

It's that day in which players are allowed to negotiate, but what ended up happening as always was we get a deluge of news of contracts that are agreed upon. And all that comes after a wild weekend of moves already made!

And you've come to the right place with the play-by-play of the biggest news.

Our free agent tracker from Christian D'Andrea has all the moves to know -- the latest players who have signed, where they're headed (or if they're staying), and then who's left from a wild first day.

So here's a look back with the biggest updates as all the tweets rolled in (well, actually -- Twitter broke again which made this thing doubly fun). There's sure to be a lot more coming soon enough in free agency.

Grady Jarrett gets cut, finds a new home

He was released by the Falcons and is now a Bear!

Hey, the Cardinals do something with Josh Sweat

Arizona makes a move to sign the pass rusher, giving him $41 million guaranteed.

More free agent grades

We've got grades for:

JUSTIN FIELDS, YOU ARE A JET!

Two years, $30 million guaranteed. Personally, I love this move for the Jets, who may still go for a QB in the 2025 draft. Fun fact: did you know he played with Garrett Wilson at Ohio State?

Let's hand out some grades for DJ Reed to Detroit

Check out what our Christian D'Andrea had to say about Reed to the Lions

The Patriots keep adding to their defense with Milton Williams

Big day for the Pats, who look a lot better today than they did yesterday on the defensive side of the ball.

SAM DARNOLD TO THE SEAHAWKS!

Well, hello.

Darnold replaces the traded Geno Smith and gets a three-year deal with $55 million guaranteed. The first QB domino has fallen.

Carlton Davis is a Patriot

The latest on Justin Fields, who's the "first domino" to fall at QB

Per ESPN's Brooke Pryor:

Adam Schefter says on ESPN that Justin Fields is "keeping the Steelers at bay" and reiterates that he could come back to Pittsburgh -- but it's a big opportunity for the Jets to make their pitch to the former first-round QB.

Schefter says Fields is the "first domino" that has to fall.

Two DTs got paid

BJ Hill is staying in Cincinnati and Javon Kinlaw got $30 million guaranteed from the Commanders.

The Bears get a good center

Chicago continues to upgrade its O-line, which is great news for the franchise. They reportedly signed Drew Dalman to a three-year deal with $28 million guaranteed.

Chris Godwin is back in Tampa, and the Bucs signed Haason Reddick

The wideout reportedly agree to a contract with $44 million guaranteed as free agency kicked off. The Bucs also signed pass rusher Haason Reddick to a one-year deal.

Check out our breakdown and grade of the Godwin signing.
