Kyler Murray sends NFL world into meltdown after Cardinals comeback

Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray left NFL fans in awe on Monday morning (AEDT), pulling off a series of jaw-dropping plays to lead a remarkable come-from-behind victory over the Las Vegas Raiders.

The Cardinals fought back from 20-0 down to secure a 29-23 overtime victory on the back of Murray’s heroics, with his unique ability to scramble and extend plays with his feet proving pivotal in the outcome of the contest.

Murray defied logic on a two-point conversion attempt midway through the fourth quarter.

After the initial play broke down, Murray evaded the Raiders defence by zig-zagging all the way back to the 20-yard line.

Just as he seemingly appeared to run out of options, Murray managed to find a seam and run the ball into the end zone himself.

In total, Murray covered 84.9 yards and extended the play for 20.8 seconds, with many labelling it the craziest successful two-point conversion of all time.

Murray admitted he was forced to improvise on the play, likening it to playing football in the backyard.

“They dropped nine, had two people rushing. I knew they weren’t going to be able to tackle me,” Murray explained.

"It was backyard football at that point trying to find somebody. Move, get open, make a play.

“I told the guys in the huddle ‘we’ve got to get this’. At that time we were down 16, I believe. If we don’t get the two point conversion, it’s looking tough for us.”

Murray was right. The play proved to be a crucial one as it reduced the Raiders’ lead to eight points, making it a one possession game.

But the 25-year-old former number one draft pick was not done there, again using his mobility to scramble for a touchdown as time expired to bring the Cardinals with two points of the Raiders.

With no time left on the clock, Arizona once again needed to go for two, with Murray threading the needle on a bullet-like pass to A.J. Green in the end zone to force overtime.

The Cardinals eventually secured victory when Isaiah Simmons forced a Raiders fumble that was recovered by Byron Murphy Jr. for the game-winning score.

While it was Arizona’s defence that delivered the deciding play, there was no denying that Murray’s contribution was critical.

"I had to take over, that was my mindset,” Murray said.

“There was no other option for me but to convert those two-point conversions.

“It was a complete team effort today and I’m just proud of how we fought to come out her and get a ‘W’ against a great team."
