Wawrinka hits back at Kyrgios after distasteful sledge
Stanislas Wawrinka has responded to Nick Kyrgios's outlandish girlfriend sledge during their match today.
Kyrgios caused a major stir at the Montreal Masters, aiming a distasteful mid-match sledge at Wawrinka.
As the above video shows, the incident occurred midway through the second set after Wawrinka had taken the first in a tie break.
"Kokkinakis banged your girlfriend. Sorry to tell you that mate," said Kyrgios, with the comment picked up by a courtside microphone.
30-year-old Wawrinka divorced his wife Ilham earlier this year and has reportedly been dating 19-year-old fellow tennis player Donna Vekic since June.
The stunning blonde Croatian has been seen sitting in his player's box during recent tournaments.
Wawrinka made his response via Twitter saying what Kyrgios said he wouldn't even mutter to his worst enemy. He also said he hoped the governing body would take a stand against the wilful Australian.
So disappointing to see a fellow athlete and colleague be so disrespectful in a way I could never even imagine.

What was said I wouldn't say to my worst enemy. To stop so low is not only unacceptable but also beyond belief.

There is no need for this kind of behaviour on or off the court and I hope the governing body of this sport does not stand...

... for this and stands up for the integrity of this sport that we have worked so hard to build.

Kyrgios went on to win the second-round match 6-7 (8-10) 6-3 4-0 after Wawrinka retired due to a back injury in the deciding set.
When asked afterwards why he made the comment, Kyrgios replied: "He was getting a bit lippy with me.
"Kind of in the heat of the moment. I don't know. I just said it.
The jibe sparked a major frenzy on social media:
Apologies @stanwawrinka on behalf of Australia. @NickKyrgios doesn't represent me or any sport lovers here...he's a classless fool. #tennis
