Punter in England wins thousands for guessing correct semi-final score

Some claim to have predicted Germany thrashing Brazil, but one very, very, lucky gambler in England put his money where his mouth was.

Germany caused of the the most shocking results in World Cup history with their 7-1 win drubbing of Brazil but a lucky pom correctly picked the score at odds of 500-1.

An anonymous punter from Essex wagered about AU$9 with British bookie Paddy Power and his return was a staggering $4,560 and he has Chelsea FC and Brazil star playmaker Oscar to thank after he scored a late goal.

A Paddy Power spokesman was obviously happy for his client, making fun of the Brazil squad.

“It was nice that that the rest of the Brazil team decided to miss the match in tribute to Neymar and Silva — but on reflection they’ll probably realise it kind of backfired,” the Paddy Power spokesman said.

It was by no means the biggest gambling win at the World Cup - with a New Zealand punter cashing in $113,000 on a multi during the group stages - but you wouldn't complain if it was you.
