Belgian World Cup beauty's modelling gig falls through over hunting photos

Axelle Despiegelaere, the 17-year-old Belgian beauty who scored a L’Oreal modeling gig after being spotted in the crowd at the World Cup last week, has had her contract torn up.

The decision is in reaction to outrage sparked by photos that the teenager posted on Facebook with a dead oryx gazelle she had hunted in Africa.

“Hunting is not a matter of life or death,” she said in the photo’s description. “It’s much more important than that … this was about 1 year ago … ready to hunt americans today haha.”

After the controversy, Axelle responded: “Hi, I didn’t mean to offend anyone … it was a joke. Thanks for understanding.”

Officials from L’Oreal say Axelle will no longer be representing the company, ‘The Independent’ reports.

A spokesperson for L’Oreal said: “L’Oreal Professionnel Belgium collaborated with her on an ad hoc basis to produce a video for social media use in Belgium. The contract has now been completed.”

The Belgian glamour was in Brazil for two weeks watching her home nation at the World Cup when photos of her in the crowd went viral on social media.
