Ball girl at Home Run Derby gets absolutely poleaxed

Colorado Rockies slugger Carlos Gonzalez failed to advance in the 2016 Home Run Derby, losing to defending champion Todd Frazier, 13-12, in the first round.

His appearance was still pretty eventful though. Chaotic may even be the proper word, as one of his hits resulted in the most talked about moment during the entire event.

One of them was actually pretty scary. Every year Major League Baseball lines the field with youth baseball and softball players who bring their gloves and chase down the non-home run balls. It's led to some memorable moments during past events, but it's also left us holding our breath as kids stand in front of some 170km/h rockets and narrowly avoid collisions in the outfield.

Unfortunately, one young girl was unable to avoid a collision on a Gonzalez liner, leading to her being steamrolled by a larger boy.

The aftermath of the collision was not shown, but it appeared the young girl was able to get to her feet. We certainly admire that toughness, but it's a reminder that the conditions out there can be unforgiving.

Miami Marlins slugger Giancarlo Stanton went on to win.
