The Australian shooter welcomed her first child with husband Niko in January 2021.

Bueta returned to star in the Quad Series, before going on to win Gold with the Diamonds at the Commonwealth Games.

The 29-year-old was arguably one of the best players in the world, before announcing she would take time away from the game.

However, in heartbreaking news, Bueta announced she had suffered a miscarriage late in her first trimester.

"It is with deep sadness that Niko and I confirm that I have experienced a miscarriage,” Bueta said to The Courier Mail.

“I understood I was announcing a bit early, and the risks associated. I did not want to let teammates down, nor train and play pregnant and be at my absolute best physically and mentally. It was a tricky time. I am confident I would do the same again.

“It has been a really difficult time. I have been through a whirlwind of emotions, cried a lot, but thrilled to have Niko and Bobby by my side every inch of the way.

Bueta sent out a message of support for all women and families going through the difficult times.

Gretel Bueta praised for brave message

Bueta took to social media after the announcement posting a video of her first born child Bobby.

She also confirmed the sad news to her followers.

"Carried for only a shorty time but loved for a lifetime," she wrote.

The post has since garnered plenty of support with the netball community rallying around their teammate and praising her 'bravery'.

Caitlin Bassett wrote: "Love for you and the boys."

Diamonds star Jamie-Lee Price said: "Sending nothing but love."

Melbourne Vixen player Kate Moloney also sent her support.

And Bueta was also praised for her bravery after making the devastating news public.

Reporter Amy Price pointed out the bravery of Bueta to announce the devastating news because of the extra pressure placed on female athletes in Australia.

"It is another cruel reality for female athletes to have to openly share and explain their experience with motherhood and fertility to their workplace, fans and teammates," she wrote.

"Gretel had to announce her pregnancy early to explain truthfully why she withdrew from the Test series. She knew the risks associated. And now she is bravely, and again truthfully, choosing to share that she has lost that pregnancy."

Bueta thanked Price for her post.
