TNT unveils new on-court shot clock graphic, but NBA fans are split on it
TNT broke out a new on-screen graphic on the first night of the 2019-20 NBA season, though basketball fans aren’t sold on it just yet.
The network unveiled its new on-screen shot clock graphic — which counts down the shot clock each possession in a small circle at the top of the key on the court just like it does on the traditional scoreboard graphic — for the Los Angeles Lakers-Los Angeles Clippers game at the Staples Center.
The shot clock in the key thing is still a little distracting but I think I like it pic.twitter.com/jSbt3vpkDS

Functionally, it worked extremely well. The graphic counted down when it needed to, and wasn’t really in the way like other on-screen graphics can be. TNT did leave the shot clock inside the scoreboard graphic on the bottom right of the screen, giving fans two places to look for the same information — which is, admittedly, a bit unnecessary.
TNT has used the graphic before, trying it out in a few preseason games this fall. However, with Tuesday night being the first official night of the new season, the graphic was seen by significantly more fans.
Naturally, just like they are about most issues, NBA fans were split on the new technology. Some loved the new move, while others thought they were playing a video game instead of watching an actual NBA contest.
Bro is that a shot clock on the free throw line 🥴 https://t.co/SfQ0n2AXjr

Is this shot clock on the court a new thing for the season or are they testing it out? I don’t mind it

Shot clock on the free throw line had me thinking I was playing NBA Live 21

This @NBAonTNT shot clock gimmick is distracting. There’s a shot clock in the bottom right, if I want to see it I’ll look there.

It’s game 1 and I’m over the shot clock graphic on the court. Going to be a long season

The shot clock on the actual court at Staples is like those watches with four different smaller dials embedded in the bigger dial. They think it's sophisticated but it's just busy and distracting.

@NBAonTNT Shot Clock addition is cool but please make it the teams primary color instead of white

This shot clock decal at the top of the key must be new for #NBA broadcasts. I can't decide if I like it...

i like the shot clock on the court, in addition to the shot clock on the score bug and the shot clock behind the basket, but i need more. there should be at least 8 shot clocks on screen at all times. don't even show the game just give me a big clock counting down from 24 to 0 pic.twitter.com/T9So9O9qWy

Why is there a shot clock on the floor? Who asked for it? Anybody? Please respond if you did.

What's going on with this weird shot clock on the floor? pic.twitter.com/uq1Wvkdsju

The shot clock on the floor is a major distraction. None of us at home need that. It’s already on the onscreen scoreboard. #NBATipOff @NBAonTNT @TheJetOnTNT @TurnerSportsEJ @SHAQ

Only time will tell if TNT keeps the graphic and expands it throughout its NBA coverage this season or not.
