My First Home Run: Tim Wallach's homer made him part of an elite group
You always remember the first one — especially when you’re part of a such an elite group.
It’s a small enough group of people who have hit a home run in the big leagues, even smaller is the group of people who homered in their first big league at-bat.
One hundred and eighteen people have done it. That’s it. You’ll find more people than that in a Costco right now.
Tim Wallach is one of them — and re-tells the story in the latest installment of “My First Home Run.”
The long-time MLB infielder, best known for his time with the Montreal Expos in the 1980s and then with the Dodgers in the 1990s, has a wrinkle in his story. While he homered in his first official at-bat, he didn’t homer in the first time he went to the plate in the big leagues.
These days, Wallach is the Miami Marlins bench coach, having come over with his good friend Don Mattingly after their stints with the Dodgers.
