Mundine's outlandish claim about how he'll beat Horn

He’s 43 years old and his opponent’s camp doesn’t think he can last 12 rounds but Anthony Mundine is promising he’ll wear Jeff Horn out in Friday’s bout in Brisbane.

The ex-NRL player will take on Horn at Suncorp Stadium on Friday in the 30-year-old’s first fight since his defeat to American Terence Crawford in June.

That bout was Horn’s first defeat as a professional and ended his reign as the WBO welterweight champion.

Crawford didn’t allow Horn to settle in the fight, staying away from the ropes and peppering Horn with a barrage of punches.

Mundine believes he can emulate Crawford and simply wear down Horn physically.

“I done 12 rounds with three different sparring partners last week in the heat, 30-second break, he’s going to be puffing before I be puffing, believe me,” Mundine said.

“I’ve got too much experience, too much seasoning for him.

“I’m gonna break him down. I’m gonna hurt him late. He’s gonna get stopped.”

Mundine has had to cut weight to get to the 71kg limit for the fight – and faces financial penalties if he comes in over at Thursday’s weigh-in.

He’s confident he’ll avoid those fines, however, and thinks the lighter weight will enhance – not limit – his fighting ability.

“I made weight last week … I know they’re banking on me not to be strong,” Mundine said.

“I’m seasoned. I’m experienced. I’ll go 12 – I’ll go 15 rounds – I’m ready to go.”

Mundine hits Horn with nasty allegation

Anthony Mundine has taken a swipe at Jeff Horn, accusing his rival of using a dodgy tactic in his previous bouts.

Mundine says he will aim to raise his concern about Horn’s alleged tendency to lead with his head before Friday’s bout in Brisbane.

Horn has repeatedly been criticised by opponents for head-butting, with both Manny Pacquiao and Terence Crawford’s camps raising concerns before their fighters got in the ring with the Australian.

Mundine says Horn’s headbutts are the “only thing” he’s worried about and he’ll be bringing the issue up at a pre-fight rules meeting with referee Phil Austin later this week.

“That’s the only thing that I’m worried about,” Mundine said when asked if the head-butts were a concern.

“When he starts to get banged up and he starts to get blood here and there, he’s going to get frustrated and not know what to do so he’s going to start leading with the elbows, leading with the head and all these types of things.

“Hopefully we’ll talk in the rules meeting and put our case forward.”
