'The Mountain' from Game of Thrones wins World's Strongest Man
Hafthor Bjornsson, better known as ‘The Mountain’ from Game of Thrones, has officially been crowned the World’s Strongest Man.
After finishing runner-up the last two years, the 206cm, 200kg giant from Iceland went one step further over the weekend.
The 29-year-old won through his qualifying group in the Phillipines before taking out the Overhead Press and Loading Race in the finals.
The actor’s fight to the finish involved two days of strength tests, which included pulling a truck, races while hauling anvils and other heavy objects, and, of course, overhead deadlifts.
He finished top with 51.5 points, six-and-a-half more than second-placed Mateusz Kieliszkowski.
“Want to thank all of my family, friends and fans for supporting me along the way,” he wrote on Instagram.
“Special thanks to my coach @australianstrengthcoach and my nutritionist @stanefferding. Also want to thank my sponsors, @kjotkompani @sbdapparel @roguefitness. Congratulations to @kieliszkowskimateusz and @shawstrength for their second and third finishes!”

Bjornsson has dominated Iceland’s Strongest Man competition since 2011, but has failed to convert that into victory in the world comp – until now.
Bjornsson also holds the world record for deadlifting 1,041 lbs (472 kg) a few months ago.
He recently told Men’s Fitness his diet begins each day with “six eggs, bacon and oatmeal, followed two hours later by some sliced steak and rice”.
“It’s a full-time job to be this size,” he added.
