Another shocking crash on same day as Alonso's

The motorsport world has been rocked by another terrifying crash, this time at an amateur vintage car race in the UK.

Horrified onlookers witnessed a 60-year-old Lotus 18 somersault out of control after colliding with a rival car.

The amateur racer at the prestigious meeting at Sussex also had an incredible escape - on the same day that Fernando Alonso walked away from an dreadful crash at the Australian F1 Grand Prix.

Competitors in the Brooks Trophy for GP cars 1954 to 1960 were only on their first lap, when Stephen Bond collided with rival Richard Wilson in a Cooper T51 at nearly 130 km/h.

Racing was halted while rescue teams freed Bond from the wreck of his car. He was taken to hospital with a broken shoulder and collar bone.
