MotoGP champion Martin has surgery on right hand
MotoGP world champion Jorge Martin has had successful surgery on his broken right hand after crashing in pre-season testing this week.
The 27-year-old Spaniard was launched off his bike and landed heavily as he hit the tarmac face first and shattered his helmet at the track in Sepang, Malaysia.
Martin also sustained fractures in his left foot, but his Aprilia team said that injury did not require surgery.
Aprilia added that Martin will be assessed in the coming days to see how long he will be out for.
The 2025 MotoGP season will start next month in Thailand, with qualifying and the sprint race on 1 March and the main race on 2 March.
Martin moved to Italian manufacturer Aprilia after winning last year's title with Pramac Ducati at the final race of the season in Barcelona.
He had completed just 19 laps in Sepang when he lost control of his new bike and was flipped high into the air.
