'What a disaster': Aussie rider's horrifying moment after Moto2 crash

Aussie Moto2 rider Remy Gardner was fighting for his first victory of the championship as he tussled with the leaders in Austria before disaster struck.

Gardner was pushing leader Brad Hinder all race, but with six laps remaining an accident cost the Aussie a potential podium position.

The 21-year-old was attempting to make his move when he ran in behind Binder at the first turn, which allowed Enea Bastianini to move ahead.

Gardner was forced to shift across as he was overtaken but as he came back into the turn his wheel clipped the back of the emerging Alex Marquez and the Aussie tumbled.

Both the Aussie and his bike slid across the track with Gardner coming to a halt in a dangerous position.

Gardner ended up sitting in the middle of the track with his hands up to warn his competitors who were streaking past the turn towards the straight.

The 21-year-old was able to safely run off the track after a few nervous moments as competitors missed him by only a few metres.

“Get up and run out of the way,” a horrified commentator said.

“What a disaster.”

He then let out his frustration after realising he had let a great opportunity to end up on the podium slip.

Gardner’s crash wasn’t the only disaster of the day as Luca Marini took out Bastianini on the next lap, which sent Marini tumbling.

Binder emerged the winner of the race, but Marquez finished second to extend his championship lead.
