Scary scenes as fans injured by flying baseball bat

Two fans have been injured by a rogue bat in the ninth inning of the San Diego Padres' 3-2 loss to the Colorado Rockies at Petco Park on Friday.

The bat slipped out of Padres catcher Hector Sanchez's hands and flew into the stands along the third-base line, hitting one of the fans, a woman, in the forehead.

Play was stopped for more than 10 minutes as they received medical attention.

The woman had her head wrapped in a bandage and was placed in a wheelchair, where she was escorted away from the stadium, according to NBC San Diego.

As a crew was cleaning up the area where the woman was struck, police arrested an unruly male fan who refused to move, the San Diego Union-Tribune reported.

After the game, the Padres released a statement that said both fans had been taken to a local hospital and that "their injuries do not appear to be serious."

The Padres also addressed that the would re-evaluate the backdrop netting so accidents like this wouldn't occur again.
