'Mind-blowing': Boxing world in shock over insane KO
The boxing world was stunned on the weekend after undefeated and rising star Devin Haney knocked out his opponent Antonio Moran with a ferocious overhand right in the seventh round.
Haney, a Californian with a career record of 22 wins including 14 knockouts, was taking on a more senior opponent who has never suffered a stoppage loss.
The 20-year-old said he wanted to silence the critics claiming he didn’t have a knockout punch and this performance could go some way to proving them wrong.
Haney unleashed a barrage of timely punches at Moran in the seventh with the ferocious punch coming after a well timed hook to the body.
“I wanted to make a statement. There was a lot of rumours that said I didn’t have punching power, I couldn’t knock guys out, but as you see, I can. I broke my opponent down, then I knocked him out,” the young fighter said after the bout.
“I have speed, I have power, I’ve got ring IQ, and I’ve got head movement. I can do it all,” he added.
“I have many tools in the tool box, it just depends on what I want to bring out that night.”
Legendary boxing announcer Bruce Buffer was quick to praise the skillset of Haney, as were many on social media.
Some called the finish the “knockout of the year”.
