What is Mike Tomlin's playoff record? Steelers coach has up-and-down postseason history

Editor's Note: The Pittsburgh Steelers lost to the rival Ravens in Baltimore on Saturday night.

Mike Tomlin has never had a losing record in the regular season as head coach of the Pittsburgh Steelers. His playoff record, especially recently, is a bit spottier.

Tomlin took over the Steelers' head coaching job in 2007 and won a Super Bowl one year later. He took Pittsburgh to another AFC title two years after that but ultimately fell short of a second championship in his first four years.

More recently, playoff success hasn't come quite as easily for Tomlin's Steelers. Since reaching the AFC title game after the 2016 season, Pittsburgh has made the playoffs five times. The team did not win a game in any of those postseason appearances.

Tomlin has coached in a total of 19 NFL playoff games, including two Super Bowl appearances (and one win).

Here's his full playoff record since taking over as Pittsburgh's head coach in 2007, broken down by year and cumulatively:

  • 2007: 0-1; lost in wild card round

  • 2008: 3-0; Super Bowl 43 champions

  • 2010: 2-1; lost in Super Bowl 45

  • 2011: 0-1; lost in wild card round

  • 2014: 0-1; lost in wild card round

  • 2015: 1-1; lost in divisional round

  • 2016: 2-1; lost in AFC championship game

  • 2017: 0-1; lost in divisional round

  • 2020: 0-1; lost in wild card round

  • 2021: 0-1; lost in wild card round

  • 2023: 0-1; lost in wild card round

  • 2024: 0-1; lost in wild card round

  • Overall: 8-11

Tomlin has become known for his track record of success in the regular season. Since he took over as the Steelers' head coach in 2007, the team has never finished a season with a losing record.

In the playoffs, Tomlin's Steelers have had a more up-and-down track record. Pittsburgh made two Super Bowl appearances – and won one of them – in the first four years of Tomlin's tenure.

In recent years, playoff wins have been harder to come by. The Steelers haven't won a postseason game under Tomlin since the 2016 season despite earning a playoff berth five times since.
