Max Verstappen captured in brutal reaction after Daniel Ricciardo's race ruined in China
The Aussie driver was left fuming during his interview as the F1 world watched the drama.
Daniel Ricciardo has reacted with anger after Lance Stroll claimed it was his fault the duo collided during the Chinese GP as race winner Max Verstappen reacted with shock to a replay of the collision. Ricciardo has endured a nightmare F1 season with RB Racing with the Aussie failing to finish another race because of a mechanical issue.
The safety car came out and there was chaos ahead of the reset with drivers tightly bunched when heading into the corner. Ricciardo was watching Oscar Piastri ahead of him and slowed down. And Stroll didn't appear to take much notice of Ricciardo braking and he slammed into the back of his car.
"This idiot just slammed on the break," Stroll said to his team on the radio. Ricciardo was looking decent until this point and was inside the top 10 before Stroll collided with his car. The Aussie's race was over only a few laps later as he couldn't continue with the damage.
Ricciardo was clearly dejected after failing to finish another race this year. After the finish, Verstappen was filmed watching the replay of the incident during the safety car lap and he reacted with shock. "No way," he muffled as he watched Stroll slam into Ricciardo.
The Aussie wasn't thrilled about the incident with Stroll and claimed his rival had dropped his guard. “It’s a restart you know we don’t know what the leader is going to do, so you have to be as vigilant as ever and be prepared for any situation,” he said after the race.
“I could see it was bunching up into the hairpin so obviously everyone is backing up, but then how hard he has hit me and basically put half his car under mine, it wasn’t small like a judgement error, he was miles off. For that for me there’s obviously no excuse. I think for me what’s frustrating is I watched his onboard and he’s not even looking at me."

Daniel Ricciardo fumes after Lance Stroll reveal
Ricciardo admitted he had just started to calm down until he was made aware Stroll had blamed him on the radio for the incident. And the Aussie didn't hold back in a strongly worded interview.
“I’d slowly started to calm down and then I was told what Lance thinks of the incident,” Ricciardo said after being told of Stroll's reaction. “And apparently I’m an idiot. And it was my fault.
“So, that made my blood boil. Because it’s clear as day - and it’s also behind a safety car. The only thing you’ve got to do is watch the car in front, we can’t predict what the leader is going to do. We can’t assume that we’re going to go in Turn 14. The race doesn’t start until the control line. I’m doing my best not to say what I want to say. But f**k that guy – and I’m being nice still. But if that’s what he thinks, I’m like… yeah.”
Daniel Ricciardo on Lance stroll
“He’s saying my mistake? I had started to calm down, but that pisses me off. I watched his onboard. He’s not even looking at me. We start to brake, and his head is looking at the corner. […] That pisses me off.”

While Verstappen was left stunned at the incident involving Stroll and Ricciardo, he wasn't shocked at the level of his performance having taken out his fourth victory of 2024. The Red Bull leader finished ahead of Lando Norris and Sergio Perez who enjoyed a great battle for second and third.
