Matildas players left unimpressed as Aussie uniforms for Paris Olympics divide opinion
A video of Mackenzie Arnold and Alanna Kennedy in the outfits has garnered over one million views.
Australia's athletes are starting to receive their uniforms at the Paris Olympics, but not all of them have gone down overly well. Matildas players Mackenzie Arnold and Alanna Kennedy have gone viral in Paris after filming a video showing their very underwhelming reaction to one of the Games outfits.
The Matildas players showed off one of the looks - a green and gold pleated skirt with a printed top - but didn't seem to be enjoying it. Arnold and Kennedy looked very underwhelmed as they awkwardly moved around, mouthing the words "let's f***ing go."
The video was captioned "POV: Olympic gear arrived" and had garnered over one million views at time of publishing. But the majority of fan reactions were negative as well, with many ridiculing how that particular outfit made the Matildas players look.
One person wrote “I feel awkward, and it’s not even me in this dress,”, while another said: “We need a squad dance with these ASAP.” Another wrote, “Please wear these and take awkward family photos," while another comment read: “It’s giving like family photos and your mum's picked everyone’s matching outfits."
Someone also commented: “Yes but go where? Cottilion? The beach? Year 10 formal?” And another added: "They are the high school skirts we all rolled to an inch of its life in the 00s".
Aussies given first-time offerings in uniforms for Olympics
Athletes at the Olympics are given a number of uniforms to wear while they're not competing, as well as ones for the opening and closing ceremonies. For the first time ever, the Australian Olympians’ Oath will be on the inside jacket pocket of blazers worn for the opening ceremony, featuring the names of all 301 Australian Olympic champions throughout the jacket lining.

The outfits will also feature Indigenous artwork “Walking Together” from Olympic boxer Paul Fleming in the pocket square and scarf and with the Olympians’ oath on the inside lining. “Wearing an Australian Olympic opening ceremony uniform is a rare and special moment,” chef de mission Anna Meares said.
“I have had the honour of receiving four Australian Olympic team ceremony uniforms and I treasure each one. For Olympians, it brings us together, from different sports, backgrounds and experiences, proudly uniting us through that team uniform.
“It creates a connection and sense of belonging to the Australian Olympic team’s proud history. It begins our Olympic experience and post-Games continues to be worn by Olympians proudly to events, long past our days as elite athletes. It’s a uniform that is treasured and the quality, comfort and feel brings a pride and confidence to us all. I love that the Olympians’ oath will sit on the inside lining at heart level, with the support of all Australia’s Olympic champions throughout history wrapping around each of our team members for Paris."
Aussie athletes will also be able to wear dresses for the first time around Olympic venues in Paris. "This is the first time that we've had a dress [as part of the uniform]," Rugby 7s player and Olympic champion Charlotte Caslick said. "I know the girls are going to be really excited to wear a dress. The conditions in Paris are going to be quite hot and humid, so having something lightweight to chuck on is perfect for when we're over there."
