Masters 2025 third round: Leaderboard, Rory McIlroy leads, Bryson DeChambeau close behind
It was quite the Moving Day at the 2025 Masters. Justin Rose, Bryson DeChambeau and Rory McIlroy started atop the leaderboard at the beginning of the third round. Two-time and defending champion Scottie Scheffler was within striking distance, as were Shane Lowry, Tyrrell Hatton and Viktor Hovland.
But by the end McIlroy and DeChambeau wowed the galleries at Augusta National with an amazing Saturday, one that setup a dream scenario for Sunday at the Masters.
And remember, there's been an extra hour added to the CBS coverage of Sunday's final round and two extra hours of streaming coverage added to Sunday.
CBS is back for a 70th consecutive year televising the Masters.

Masters payout, purse for 2025
The payout and total prize money for the 2025 Masters was announced Saturday morning. The total purse is $21 million and first place is good for $4.2 million.
In 2024, the total payout was $20 million, with winner Scottie Scheffler taking home $3.6 million.
Rory McIlroy eagles 16, finished at 66
It's been quite an afternoon for McIlroy, who pushed his lead to four strokes. The Northern Irishman carded a birdie on No. 13 to bring him to 4-under on the day and 10-under for the tournament.
McIlroy started the third round at 5-under with three birdies and an eagle, but his red-hot start slowed significantly as he recorded two bogeys on No. 8 and No. 10. He appears to have righted the ship with his fourth birdie of the round on No. 13, the first since No. 5, and then an eagle on No. 15 that really put things in his control.

He finished the day with a 66 and is 12 under for the tournament.
Min Woo Lee assessed a penalty stroke. How come?
En route to a 77, Min Woo Lee was assessed a penalty stroke. Why?
According to a statement released by Augusta National Golf Club:
On hole No. 13, Min Woo Lee asked for assistance after his ball moved on the fairway. It was determined his actions near the ball did cause it to move and one penalty stroke was added to his score under Rule 9.4b.
Lee is playing in his fourth Masters. He finished in the top 25 in 2022 and 2024. In 13 career rounds at Augusta National, he's broken 70 just once.
Ludvig Aberg has made consecutive birdies
It's been a relatively quiet tournament thus far for Ludvig Aberg, who finished second a year ago at Augusta National. But the former Texas Tech star hasn't made any big mistakes and a pair of birdies on Nos. 14 and 15 has moved him to 5 under, which puts him in prime position heading into Sunday.
Bryson DeChambeau is heating up again
It's been an up-and-down front from Bryson DeChambeau, but he's paired three birdies with his two bogeys and sits right in the mix at 8 under through nine holes.

Rory McIlroy is on fire early at Augusta
Rory McIlroy was all business to start the third round at Augusta National, posting a birdie on the opening hole, an eagle on No. 2 and another birdie on three to surge into the lead.
McIlroy has recorded a 3 on each of the first four, no wait, five, no wait, six holes. Yes you read that right. Rory has six 3s on his scorecard, he's the first to open a Masters round in such a manner.

Zach Johnson came out of nowhere on Saturday
Those of you who expected Zach Johnson to make a run like he did on Saturday, raise your hand. OK, now we know who the liars are.
The 2007 champ went on an absolute tear, kickstarting his day with an eagle on the second hole. By day's end, Johnson was near the top of the leaderboard, and this in just the second time he's reached the weekend since 2020.
When asked if he stepped into a time machine, he turned to humor.
"What happened?" he asked. "I just blacked out."
