'It's a disgrace': League legend's stunning attack on Cameron Smith
Manly great Max Krillich has panned Cameron Smith and the NRL referees claiming the dummy half has too much influence over the game which is ruining rugby league.
Krillich, writing for The Daily Telegraph, said NRL referees are “scared” of the 401-game veteran and claimed his wresting tactics were not in the “spirit of the game”.
“Cameron comes in as the third tackler and is then the last man up. He slows it up to perfection — he’s the master,” he said.
“He is third man in, rolling all over the ball. This has gone on for many years.”
Krillich called on the referees to crack down on the Storm and Queensland legend.
“They are scared of him and it’s a disgrace,” he added.
On NRL 360, journalist Paul Kent said many fans of the game would agree with some of the Manly great’s issues with the modern game.
“What Max Krilich has said will resonate with fans around the game,” Kent said.
“The argument is there’s discretion to how long you can lay on a player and keep him down.
“The argument is Cameron Smith is allowed to get away with more than other player in the game.”
Krilich went on to slam the Storm for their wrestling tactics, which he claimed was “ruining the game of rugby league.”
Krilich played more than 200 games for the Sea Eagles, NSW and Australia from 1970 to 1983.
