Manchester United Women’s Ella Toone to return following two-month injury absence
Manchester United Women midfielder Ella Toone is set to return following a two-month injury absence.
The 25-year-old has not featured since November 10 after sustaining a calf injury but has returned to fitness and may feature in the FA Cup clash against West Bromwich Albion on Saturday.
“Ella Toone is back and hopefully in the squad, she will hopefully play some part against West Brom,” manager Marc Skinner told a news conference on Friday. ‘We are looking at that obviously with the games coming up as well.
“Probably (playing) around half an hour, I think is probably sensible. The competitive chaos nature of a game that you can’t control a little bit more fatigues mentally. So you make different decisions. But she trained yesterday with the team working on the shape and she was really sharp. So hopefully we can get her into the game and introduce her after the long time she’s had out.
“Lisa (Naalsund) is still out. Lisa will probably be a few weeks before she’s back on the grass and training with the team.”
In Toone’s absence, United have won three of their four Women’s Super League (WSL) matches; defeating Leicester City, Liverpool and Crystal Palace while suffering a 1-0 loss at champions Chelsea.
United are fourth in the WSL with 21 points from their 10 league matches.
