Manchester United vs Tottenham LIVE!
Spurs produced one of the statement results of Ange Postecoglou’s tenure so far as they cruised to a stylish 3-0 victory over sorry Manchester United in the Premier League on Sunday. The visitors were dominant at Old Trafford, taking the lead inside just three minutes as Brennan Johnson notched his fourth goal in as many games following a spectacular run and assist from Micky van de Ven.
The Welsh forward also hit the post as the chances continued to pile up for Tottenham, with Alejandro Garnacho also striking the woodwork before things went from bad to worse for United as captain Bruno Fernandes was sent off for a challenge on James Maddison. That misery was compounded by Kobbie Mainoo heading straight down the tunnel and Spurs doubling their advantage soon after the interval when Johnson’s deflected cross was flicked past Andre Onana by the excellent Dejan Kulusevski.
United’s 10 men rallied midway through the second half, though could not find the elusive goal to make things interesting as instead Dominic Solanke turned in from close range after substitutes Lucas Bergvall and Pape Sarr had immediately combined at a corner. A day to remember for Postecoglou, but an abysmal performance and result that heaps yet more pressure on Erik ten Hag. Follow Manchester United vs Tottenham reaction live below, with expert analysis from Standard Sport’s chief football correspondent Dan Kilpatrick at Old Trafford.

It is three in three for Dominic Solanke after another instinctive, poacher's finish.
And what about the impact from Bergvall and Sarr, who made the goal with their first touches.
The home fans stream for the exits as the away end sings, 'Is there a fire drill?'
GOAL! Manchester United 0-3 Tottenham | Dominic Solanke 78'

78 mins: And that should be that!
Two of Postecoglou’s young substitutes combine immediately, Bergvall’s whipped corner from the left flicked on by Sarr and turned home by Solanke on the line.
After soaking up plenty of pressure from the 10 men, Spurs are surely now home and dry.

United are having their best period of the game and have got the crowd back up after making a series of inroads into Spurs' box.
Time for Postecoglou's side to show their maturity and defensive strength to ensure their position of strength does not become nervy.

It could yet be...

Casemiro has only been on the pitch a few seconds but he was weak in the build-up to Spurs' second goal, which was flicked home by the superb Kulusevski.

I think Fernandes can count himself unlucky but the VAR was never likely to overturn the referee's decision, particularly given the renewed emphasis on the on-field call this season.
Spurs a goal and a man up, and have a golden chance to earn what would feel like a big result here.
Manchester United 0-1 Tottenham

Half-time
Loud boos from the Stretford End.
Dismal from United, with Bruno Fernandes sent off and Kobbie Mainoo potentially injured.
They were abysmal for most of that first half, outfought and outclassed despite Garnacho hitting the post.
Stylish Spurs cut them apart time and time again, Johnson striking the woodwork, and Ange Postecoglou will be disappointed that it’s only 1-0 at the interval.
But you’d fancy that to change soon with their man advantage.
Worrying times once again for Erik ten Hag.
Manchester United 0-1 Tottenham
17:21 , George Flood
50 mins: Some lovely defending from Van de Ven to thwart Garnacho and the half-time whistle sounds.
Manchester United 0-1 Tottenham
17:20 , George Flood
48 mins: Three yellows and a red now for United as a frustrated Mount has his name taken.
Was that an injury to Mainoo by the way or something tactical? Him heading straight down the tunnel was not a good sign at all.
This could not have gone any worse for United so far.
Manchester United 0-1 Tottenham
17:17
45 mins: There will be five minutes of additional time played at the end of this eventful first half.
Dalot and Johnson have both gone into the book in the last few minutes.

43 mins: The Spurs players were immediately furious with that but Fernandes spent a long time pleading his case to referee Chris Kavanagh, who was never changing his mind.

Admittedly, Son missed a couple of 1v1s vs Brentford last weekend but you would have backed him to score Werner's chance all day long.
The German, though, never seemed likely to be clinical and it's another big chance wasted for Spurs.

41 mins: RED CARD FOR BRUNO FERNANDES!
Manchester United are down to 10 men as their skipper receives a straight red for a challenge on Maddison.
He looked to slip as he went to make the challenge but still ended up planting his foot just under the knee of the England midfielder.
Manchester United 0-1 Tottenham
17:10 , George Flood
39 mins: Chances galore at Old Trafford at the moment as United lose possession in the middle again and the influential Kulusevski pokes through to release Werner.
The German is clean through but gets the finish all wrong and Onana saves to keep this at 1-0.
A clear lack of confidence from Werner there. He should have buried that.
Manchester United 0-1 Tottenham
17:08 , George Flood
37 mins: Better from the hosts as Bruno Fernandes comes to life with a fine pass.
Rashford crosses from the left and a slipping Garnacho blasts a volley against the post.
A warning for Spurs.
Manchester United 0-1 Tottenham

35 mins: It’s just not clicking at all for United anywhere on the pitch in this first half.
A promising counter-attack ends with ironic cheers from the travelling fans as a ball towards Garnacho sails beyond the back post.
Manchester United 0-1 Tottenham

33 mins: The first yellow card of the afternoon is brandished by referee Chris Kavanagh.
It goes to Mazraoui for a poor late challenge on Udogie.

32 mins: De Ligt tries to muster some energy from his United team-mates as he concedes the corner.
Spurs keep the pressure on and Porro’s delivery from the right is acrobatically sent agonisingly wide by Romero.

Spurs should assume that United will improve in the second half so, again, it feels important they add a second here.
United cannot deal with Spurs' twin number eights, Maddison and Kulusevski, while Johnson is a constant threat.
Manchester United 0-1 Tottenham

29 mins: Tottenham continue to torment the terribly sluggish hosts as Ten Hag shakes his head on the touchline.
The busy Maddison stands up a cross that goes safe before letting fly with a low effort that is held by Onana.
Manchester United 0-1 Tottenham
16:57 , George Flood
26 mins: United win the ball high up the pitch themselves but Zirkzee can’t pick out a pass to an audible groan from the Old Trafford faithful.
Tottenham then slice through them again, with a crucial last-ditch intervention from Mazraoui to stop Werner from turning home Johnson’s cross from close range.
Manchester United 0-1 Tottenham
16:54
22 mins: Suddenly United spark into life and Vicario has to be alert to deny a stretching Zirkzee.
End-to-end stuff now at Old Trafford as a dangerous Spurs cut-back falls safe before Rashford is unable to pick out the run of Garnacho with a difficult delivery to the back post.
Manchester United 0-1 Tottenham
16:52
21 mins: Udogie is struggling here as he sits down on the pitch and receives treatment.
Djed Spence is stripped and ready to go on, but it looks like Udogie wants to come back.
Manchester United 0-1 Tottenham
16:50 , George Flood
20 mins: WOODWORK!
Wonderful football again from fluid Spurs, with the in-form Johnson arrowing a low strike against the base of the post after being teed up by Kulusevski.
Good work from Werner and a strong run from Udogie.
Manchester United 0-1 Tottenham
16:49 , George Flood
18 mins: Too many quiet performances from United going forward at the moment, with Garnacho now trying to assume the attacking mantle down the right.
But he loses it and Spurs wind up with a free-kick.
Manchester United 0-1 Tottenham

Spurs are in charge and pushing for a second against a United side who have strung five passes together.
Ange Postecoglou, though, will be conscious that his side have struggled to turn dominance into goals at times this season.
In front of watching England boss Lee Carsley, James Maddison is looking in great touch.
Manchester United 0-1 Tottenham
16:45 , George Flood
15 mins: Better from United as they spread the ball out left into space for Rashford, with Van de Ven struggling to get there as he tries to pick out Zirkzee in the middle.
But the cross isn’t accurate enough and Vicario claims.
Manchester United 0-1 Tottenham
16:44 , George Flood
12 mins: The early chances continue to come for Spurs, who win the ball back high up the pitch again.
Some lovely passing football around the box and the ball is fed in to Udogie, who fires over the crossbar.
United must get a grip here or this game will be over before it’s really begun.
Manchester United 0-1 Tottenham
16:43
11 mins: United have been so sloppy here and are lucky not to be 2-0 down.
Maddison plays a lovely one-two with Kulusevski, leaving Ugarte in the dust before trying to lift the ball over Onana.
However, the United ‘keeper makes the save.
Manchester United 0-1 Tottenham

9 mins: A warning for Spurs not to get too comfortable as Onana sends a glorious long ball for Rashford, who gets into the box and forces a strong save from Vicario at his front post.
But the offside flag is up.

Van de Ven now has a compelling claim to have the two best assists in the top-flight this season.
After running between the boxes to set up Son in the 4-0 win over Everton, he does similar here with a brilliant surge forward to set up Johnson.
He's like a racehorse in full stride.
Manchester United 0-1 Tottenham
16:39
7 mins: United have really yet to get going here, certainly not for the first time this season.
Spurs are dominating possession and so many passes are being displaced by Erik ten Hag’s side.
GOAL! Manchester United 0-1 Tottenham | Brennan Johnson 3'
16:33 , George Flood
3 mins: Spurs take an early lead at Old Trafford!
Van de Ven takes on the ball inside his own half after a heavy touch from Rashford and goes on an incredible, lung-busting run all the way to the byline before crossing low for Johnson to tap home from point-blank range after less than three minutes.
What a start from Spurs and what a sensational run from the speedy Van de Ven.
Four in four now for Johnson and the home crowd are stunned into silence.
Manchester United 0-0 Tottenham

2 mins: Bentancur looks to release Solanke inside the United box as Spurs seek to go on the offensive early on at Old Trafford.
Mazraoui deals with the danger, but Tottenham come back quickly and have made the more comfortable start here.
A dreadful ball out almost puts the hosts in all sorts of trouble.

Timo Werner facing big afternoon at Old Trafford
16:18 , George Flood
Standard Sport’s Dan Kilpatrick at Old Trafford
With Heung-min Son injured, Ange Postecoglou had the option to bring Dejan Kulusevski into the front three and play Pape Sarr or Yves Bissouma in midfield.
Instead, it's a second start of the season for on-loan Timo Werner, who was abject in the Carabao Cup win over Coventry last week.
Presuambly, the Spurs head coach did not want to move Kulusevski out of midfield, where he has been excellent of late, but it feels like a big afternoon for Werner, who has slipped down the pecking order at Spurs since last season.
No other surprises in the Spurs XI today.
Manchester United must score more goals, insists Erik ten Hag
16:14 , George Flood
So what exactly is the main issue at Manchester United following another underwhelming start to the season?
Erik ten Hag thinks it’s very simple and obvious...
"We have to score more goals as a team,” he said this week.
“I think we have players across the team who have the ability to score. That's clear.
"You see all the opportunities we are creating, we are not scoring enough."
Erik ten Hag: Struggling Manchester United must 'respect the criticism'
16:08 , George Flood
Erik ten Hag has usually tended to bristle in response to the plentiful criticism of his Manchester United reign so far.
However, speaking ahead of the visit of Spurs this afternoon, the Dutchman appeared to soften his approach towards his army of Old Trafford critics.
"First of all, respect the criticism," Ten Hag said. "There are many. You can have an opinion about football.
"When you are in the job, you have to deal with this, but I can't take every criticism into account.
"I don't read, of course, all the criticism. It's not even possible but I don't want even to know. I need to know some, and some are very good advice."
Bold attacking Spurs side named by Ange Postecoglou
15:53
I wouldn’t expect anything less, but it’s a bold attacking approach from Ange Postecoglou in line with his well-established principles.
But with Spurs desperate for an overdue win against a ‘big-six’ rival and with only two away league wins to their name in 2024 so far, he should be braced for inevitable criticism if his side are beaten at Old Trafford.
You did wonder if the absence of Son might lead to either Yves Bissouma or Pape Sarr coming in as an extra midfielder.
But it’s Timo Werner who gets the nod as one of four attackers, despite having struggled to impress so far this term.
You do worry a little for that Tottenham midfield, but if they manage to overwhelm brittle United from the outset then maybe it won’t matter.
Have a feeling this could be a bonkers 4-3 kind of game, or a high-scoring draw at the very least.
Now cue the inevitable 0-0...
Timo Werner replaces injured Heung-min Son for Tottenham
15:35
There’s no Heung-min Son as expected for Tottenham, with Timo Werner making his first Premier League start of the season as part of an attacking-looking side named by Ange Postecoglou at Old Trafford.
That is the only change from last weekend’s 3-1 comeback home win over Brentford in the top-flight, with the likes of Pedro Porro, Cristian Romero, Destiny Udogie, James Maddison, Rodrigo Bentancur and Dejan Kulusevski all back in the starting XI after being handed a breather against Qarabag in the Europa League on Thursday.
Four attackers on the pitch and no Son means that teenage duo Mikey Moore and Will Lankshear are the only forward options on the Spurs bench today.
Manuel Ugarte and Marcus Rashford start for Manchester United
15:29 , George Flood
Erik ten Hag makes two changes to the Manchester United side that laboured to a goalless draw at Selhurst Park in their last Premier League outing against Crystal Palace last weekend.
Marcus Rashford is back in attack as summer signing Manuel Ugarte comes into the midfield, with Christian Eriksen and Amad Diallo both dropping to the bench.
Matthijs de Ligt, Kobbie Mainoo and Alejandro Garnacho all start after being named on the bench against FC Twente in the Europa League on Wednesday night, but Harry Maguire misses out entirely with a knock.
That means a place on the bench for the fit-again Victor Lindelof, alongside the likes of fellow recent injury recoverees Mason Mount and Rasmus Hojlund.

Why Fernandes holds the key to another Ten Hag rescue act at Man Utd
14:43 , Alex Young
Failing to beat Crystal Palace - who can’t buy a win this season - and FC Twente - who manager Erik ten Hag watches every week - have increased the noise around the manager and made the coming games even more vital.
First up is today’s clash with Spurs, who sits level on points with Manchester United but slightly ahead in midtable via, unsurprisingly, goal difference.
Despite a desire to become a more possession-based side, or at least a more controlled one, United still thrive on chaos and the counter when it comes to attacking, particularly against so-called “bigger teams.”
Spurs will come to play, and push their defenders high, which could enable Bruno Fernandes - if he finds his form - to pick out the likes of Marcus Rashford, Amad Diallo, and Alejandro Garnacho with balls over the top and in behind.
Spurs searching for landmark 'big-six' win to boost Postecoglou faith
14:35 , Alex Young
If Tottenham fail to beat Manchester United today, Ange Postecoglou's side will have gone more than a year without a win against a 'big-six' rival.
Since their 2-1 win over nine-man Liverpool on September 30, 2023 – a game marred by a dreadful VAR decision in their favour – Spurs have managed draws with Manchester City and United, but lost to Arsenal twice, Chelsea twice and City and Liverpool.
Aside from Postecoglou's record-breaking first 10 games in charge, Spurs' biggest result is still comfortably the 4-0 dismantling of Aston Villa in March, which looked set to be a watershed but was followed by six defeats in their final 11 games of last season.
Postecoglou knows his side are in a process, still adapting to his demands and growing as a collective, and there have been encouraging signs so far this term, including in the 1-0 defeat by Arsenal and particularly against Brentford last time out.
Still, Spurs could do with a landmark win over one of the league's biggest clubs to boost confidence in Postecoglou's project within the squad and fanbase.
Ten Hag frustrated by Man Utd inconsistency
14:28 , Alex Young
Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag admits he is “impatient” as inconsistency continues to prove a major problem.
The Red Devils followed up consecutive victories over Southampton and Barnsley with two disappointing results, drawing 0-0 with Crystal Palace in the Premier League before sharing the spoils with FC Twente in the Europa League following a 1-1 draw.
Ten Hag was critical of his team for their performance against his former club Twente as pressure grows ahead of Sunday’s meeting with Tottenham.
Asked about the inconsistency, the United boss said: “Of course, it's not good behaviour from me, I am impatient, I want to go straight forward.
"But also be fair, we had success in the last two seasons and we have to work very hard for more success.”
14:24 , Alex Young
Early unconfirmed reports that Son is not involved for Spurs today.
He misses out through injury.
Postecoglou: The 'impossible job' has become even more impossible
14:20 , Alex Young
Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou believes the job of a manager - often dubbed 'the impossible job’ - has become "even more impossible."
Ten Hag has won a trophy in each of his two seasons in charge - the Carabao Cup and then the FA Cup - but has also overseen the United's worst league campaign in Premier League history. He was rewarded with a new contract in the summer but the same turgid performances have followed into this term.
Postecoglou has pointed to Ten Hag as an example of a manager who is far more universally loved, despite a record of winning trophies, and believes continual improvement, and not trophies, is a better platform for sustained success.
He told Sky Sports: "If Erik [ten Hag] hadn't won something then people will have been saying he's got to win something. It's a trap you can fall into, thinking by winning something everybody is going to love me and think I'm doing a great job. That doesn't exist.r.
He added: "It's part of your existence as a manager. To coin a phrase: the impossible job, it's become even more impossible now. It seems like success is not enough if you don't have identity."

Manchester United vs Tottenham prediction
14:05 , Alex Young
A battle of two teams who frustrate at both ends of the pitch. Manchester United and Spurs have the firepower to hurt any team but struggle to do so when the time comes.
Both teams showed in Europe in midweek that they can be guilty of inexplicable defensive decisions. This could be 0-0 or 4-4.
As Spurs have won just twice on the road in the league this calendar year and, no matter Ten Hag’s tactical shortcomings, Old Trafford remains a tough place to win, we’ll plump for a score draw.
Draw, 1-1.
Tottenham team news

Tottenham are sweating over the fitness of Heung-min Son for today's game.
The captain limped off after 71 minutes of Thursday night’s 3-0 Europa League win against Azerbaijani outfit Qarabag, with Ange Postecoglou initially revealing the forward was feeling fatigued.
He followed up on Friday afternoon with: “It’s still early days from last night [against Qarabag]. It’s fair to say the boys are fairly tired, the boys who played.
“Apart from Sonny, everyone is OK. Sonny, I don’t think it’s too bad. He wants to train tomorrow. We’ll see how he goes in training [on Saturday] and see where we for from there. We’ve got another day up our sleeve to give him an extra chance.”
Tottenham will be without Wilson Odobert, due to a thigh injury, and Richarlison remains sidelined after suffering a setback in recent weeks to a calf injury.
Manchester United team news
13:52 , Alex Young
Marcus Rashford could today return to the starting lineup after being left on the bench for last weekend’s 0-0 draw at Crystal Palace.
He is likely to take the spot of Alejandro Garnacho on the left, with Amad Diallo continuing on the other flank. Joshua Zirkzee will start up front again as Rasmus Hojlund eases his way back from a hamstring injury.
Elsewhere, Manuel Ugarte could make his first league start for United against Ange Postecoglou’s side. The Uruguayan midfielder has made two substitute appearances so far, with starts in the Carabao Cup and Europa League, but is likely to replace Christian Eriksen in the lineup this afternoon.
United have no new injuries to report as Ten Hag confirmed on Thursday, with long-term absentees Leny Yoro, Luke Shaw, Victor Lindelof and Tyrell Malacia all continuing their recoveries.

It's a heavyweight game between two teams who will be disappointed with their starts to the season. Both have just two wins from their opening five games as 11th hosts 10th in the early league standings.
Erik ten Hag is once again facing questions over his future as the turgid form and results of last season were not fixed by winning the FA Cup, and another defeat today will leave him fearing the worst heading into October.
Postecoglou is not under the same pressure but could also do with a statement win. He beat United in just his second league game in charge of Spurs, coming last August, but away at Old Trafford is a different prospect. He has faced questions of his own, and three points today will go some way to silence the doubters.
Kick-off at Old Trafford is at 4.30pm BST, and we have Dan Kilpatrick there for us today.
