Manchester United vs Leicester LIVE!

Ruud van Nistelrooy celebrated his final match in temporary charge of Manchester United with a comprehensive 3-0 victory. Goals from Bruno Fernandes and Alejandro Garnacho - as well as an own goal by Victor Kristiansen sealed a deserved win for an impressive United side at Old Trafford.

Ruben Amorim takes charge as Erik ten Hag’s permanent successor on Monday and will find a squad in high spirits after a four-game unbeaten run under Van Nistelrooy following his compatriot’s sacking. United captain Fernandes marked his 250th appearance for the club with a stunning opener after just 17 minutes - the first time his side has scored before the half-hour point this season.

Perennially slow starters United were two goals ahead at the break thanks to an own goal from Kristiansen after Fernandes connected with Noussair Mazraoui’s cross. Alejandro Garnacho - introduced in the second half for Marcus Rashford - completed the win with a stunning strike in the 82nd minute to set up Amorim’s arrival. Leicester are now just three points away from the relegation zone after their third defeat in four games. Follow all the reaction with our LIVE Standard Sport dedicated match blog below!

Van Nistelrooy reveals why he dropped Garnacho

Ruud van Nistelrooy has revealed why he started Alejandro Garnacho on the bench for Manchester United’s 3-0 win over Leicester.

Van Nistelrooy gave Amad Diallo the not ahead of Garnacho at Old Trafford, with the 20-year-old winger coming on to score a stunning third.

And the Dutchman has explained his reasons for not starting Garnacho against the Foxes.

"I spoke to Alejandro Garnacho before the game, he has played a lot of minutes and I wanted him to make an impact off the bench and I'm glad it worked out,” Van Nistelrooy said after his final game as interim head coach before Ruben Amorim takes over on Monday.

Garnacho not feeling the love

Bruno Fernandes has revealed that Alejandro Garnacho believes he has “lost faith” from some of the Manchester United support.

Garnacho scored United’s third goal in their 3-0 win over Leicester on Sunday but his celebration was muted celebration.

And Fernandes has explained that the 20-year-old winger feels he doesn’t have the backing of some sections of the Old Trafford fanbase.

“It was a good day at work, I have to say,” Fernandes told BBC Sport. “We have a lot of players with big qualities, but people can get too excited after one game and too down after another.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka Exclusive

13:53 , Jamie Dickenson

We’ve got some revealing quotes to bring you from our exclusive interview with Aaron Wan-Bissaka.

The West Ham defender has opened up on why it was the ‘right time’ to leave Old Trafford and what life is life under Julen Lopetegui.

“It was difficult,” Wan-Bissaka said about leaving Crystal Palace for Manchester United in a £45million deal in the summer of 2019 aged just 21.

“Very difficult. I went [to Manchester] on my own and it was my first time moving away from home. I had no one up there, apart from my PlayStation.”

“Because Manchester’s smaller, everyone’s aware of everything that’s happening,” he says. “You have to be mentally strong to avoid the negative stuff it comes with.”

Bruno Fernandes has been presented with a framed shirt and pictures to mark his 250th appearance for Manchester United.

United co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe handed the midfielder the special gift pitchside ahead of the game against Leicester City.

"If you think about it, January 2020, coming in, to November 2024 and there's no need to explain how fit you have to be, to play all these games," said interim manager Ruud van Nistelrooy.

"But also how professional you are. He is an example, how he lives the game, as a professional, and, of course, as a captain leading the team.

"Within that, as being a role model in how to be the best professional you can be and also helping others in many situations - on and off the pitch.

"He's a great example and a great captain."

Luke Shaw nearing return

13:08

Luke Shaw has not made the Manchester United squad today but the left-back is closing in on a return to action.

Shaw has returned to training in what is a major boost for incoming manager Ruben Amorim.

The 29-year-old has not played for United since coming off in a 2-1 win at Luton Town in February, although he did feature in three games for England at Euro 2024.

United have been without a recognised senior left-back for several months, with Noussair Mazraoui and Diogo Dalot filling in due to the long-term absence of Shaw’s backup Tyrell Malacia.

Fletcher given three-game ban

12:49

Darren Fletcher has been handed a three-match extended touchline ban as well as a £7,500 fine for misconduct at Manchester United’s Premier League game with Brentford last month.

An independent Regulatory Commission imposed the sanction after finding the FA allegations that the United coach acted in an improper and/or confrontational manner and/or that he used abusive and/or insulting words towards the fourth official and the referee and/or assistant referees around the tunnel area at half time, to be proven.

Fletcher admitted the misconduct but denied that he was abusive in an incident which came after Brentford scored while Matthijs de Ligt was off the field receiving treatment for a head cut.

The United defender had already been bandaged up after being kneed in the head, but the referee forced him off again, leading to Fletcher’s, and then-United boss Erik ten Hag’s, complaints.

The ban means Fletcher will not be on the touchline for Ruud van Nistelrooy’s final game in interim charge against Leicester today, or Ruben Amorim’s opening two league games against Ipswich and Everton.

Van Nistelrooy gives Amorim advice

12:40 , Jamie Dickenson

Ruud van Nistelrooy has made it clear to incoming manager Ruben Amorim which area Manchester United need to improve on most.

Van Nistelrooy insists he believes in United’s young forwards, but agrees that the club need more goals if they are to become successful once again.

The Red Devils have scored the third-fewest goals in the Premier League this season, with only Southampton and Crystal Palace having a lower total than their nine after 10 games.

Alejandro Garnacho is their top scorer with just two goals, with strikers Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee only scoring a single goal each, albeit they have been in and out of the side and Erik ten Hag’s tactics were highly questionable.

He said: “I agree that when you want to be a successful side in the Premier League and in Europe, which is what the build is all about, you need a certain amount of goals. That is clear. That is why the best teams in the world have those players.

Man Utd vs Leicester prediction

12:03 , Jamie Dickenson

While Manchester United have hardly covered themselves in glory this season, they have been better since Ruud van Nistelrooy took over in temporary charge from the axed Erik ten Hag.

United beat Leicester 5-2 in the EFL Cup at Old Trafford at the end of last month, which served as a dress rehearsal for this Premier League encounter.

Slipping up at home to the Foxes in Van Nistelrooy’s final game before Ruben Amorim takes charge would be a huge shock, with Steve Cooper’s visitors without a win in their last three games.

Man Utd to win, 3-1.

Leicester team news

11:59 , Jamie Dickenson

Leicester came away from their 1-1 draw at Ipswich Town last weekend unblemished in terms of injuries - with substitute Jordan Ayew securing a point for them four minutes after coming on.

There is a small possibility that long-term injury absentee Patson Daka could make his return from an ankle issue against Manchester United today.

Bobby Decordova-Reid is also closing in on a comeback after suffering a “nasty wound” in Leicester’s EFL Cup defeat to United.

Hamza Choudhury is also a doubt after the club decided he would not undergo surgery to fix a shoulder issue, meaning that goalkeeper Jakub Stolarczyk may be the only player missing for Steve Cooper at Old Trafford.

Foxes boss Cooper has hinted that he might give Boubakary Soumare his first Premier League start of the campaign in Manchester.

Ayew’s injury-time equaliser at Portman Road may not be enough to earn him a starting berth over Stephy Mavididi and Abdul Fatawu, while Jamie Vardy will hope to build on his tally of six goals in 18 games against the Red Devils.

Man Utd team news

11:47 , Jamie Dickenson

Amad Diallo is pushing to keep his place in the Manchester United team against Leicester after his starring role in Thursday’s Europa League win over PAOK.

Diallo scored twice at Old Trafford and Ruud van Nistelrooy hopes the winger will be fit despite being forced off late on after his midweek double.

The 22-year-old has not started in the Premier League since the 0-0 draw at Crystal Palace on September 21.

“Amad was assessed,” said Van Nistelrooy. “We're still working on him, to get him ready for Sunday. Hopefully, it will work.

United defenders Luke Shaw and Leny Yoro are back in training but are not yet ready to return.

Kobbie Mainoo is closing in on his comeback but the midfielder will not be available until after the international break.

"Kobbie is also progressing in his injury, he’s making the right steps, but is not yet with the team, though,” Van Nistelrooy added. “That needs a bit more time.”

With Mainoo still sidelined, Van Nistelrooy has a decision over who to play in midfield after Cristian Eriksen returned to play 25 minutes off the bench against PAOK.

Manuel Ugarte and Casemiro started on Thursday and Van Nistelrooy will be tempted to largely stick with that side after United made it two wins in three games since Erik ten Hag was sacked.

Manchester United predicted XI (4-2-3-1): Onana; Mazraoui, de Ligt, Martinez, Dalot; Ugarte, Casemiro; Rashford, Fernandes, Amad; Hojlund
