Manchester United 4-1 Chelsea LIVE! Premier League result, match stream and latest updates today

Manchester United vs Chelsea LIVE!

Manchester United secured qualification for next season's Champions League as Erik ten Hag's men roared to a comprehensive 4-1 victory against wasteful Chelsea.

Casemiro, Anthony Martial, Bruno Fernandes and Marcus Rashford scored against toothless Chelsea. This was a club record 16th defeat in a 38-match Premier League season for Frank Lampard's Blues, who saw a bad early Mykhailo Mudryk miss punished by a sixth minute Casemiro header.

Further Chelsea chances went begging across the evening, including the miss by Conor Gallagher in first half stoppage time that was followed by Martial scoring.

Bruno Fernandes' penalty and substitute Marcus Rashford's goal - his 30th of the season in all competitions - wrapped up a victory that was only dampened by Antony's exit on a stretcher and a late Joao Felix consolation.

Frank Lampard claims he’s learnt little from Chelsea interim spell due to club crisis

23:28 , Jonathan Gorrie

Frank Lampard has admitted that he’s not been able to learn much as a manager from his interim spell in charge of Chelsea.

The club legend has won only one of his ten games since being parachuted into the club following Graham Potter’s sacking and the one-game caretaker spell of Bruno Saltor, making him the fourth man to manage the team this season.

21:59 , Marc Mayo

A comprehensive victory from the Red Devils to secure Champions League football next season!

21:58 , Marc Mayo

90+3 mins: Kepa, once again, keeps the scoreline (relatively) down. McTominay’s snapshot denied this time.

21:56 , Marc Mayo

90+2 mins: Casemiro named Man of the Match by Sky Sports. Well deserved after his header for 1-0 and neat set-up for the second.

21:55 , Marc Mayo

90 mins: Chelsea fans chant “we’ve scored a goal” as Garnacho is denied again by Kepa’s foot.

Four added minutes.

GGGGOOOOAAALLLL!!! Manchester United 4-1 Chelsea

21:52 , Marc Mayo

89 mins: JOAO FELIX!

Lovely passes out from the back by Enzo and Ziyech send the striker through on the counter, and he keeps running before a low effort from 20 yards beats De Gea!

21:50 , Marc Mayo

85 mins: A standing ovation for Fernandes from the United fans as he hands the captain’s armband to De Gea.

On comes McTominay.

Chance!

21:49 , Marc Mayo

84 mins: Almost five!

Garnacho ghosts in behind before placing an effort wide of the far post.

21:47 , Marc Mayo

82 mins: David Fofana, Loftus-Cheek and Ziyech replace Chukwuemeka, Gallagher and Madueke for Chelsea.

21:46 , Marc Mayo

80 mins: A few more added extras after De Gea has a go at Pulisic for challenging for a high ball.

The Chelsea man is well within his right to try and head home the cross, even if he barges the goalkeeper - who took exception to it all.

GGGOOOOAAALLLL!!! Manchester United 4-0 Chelsea

21:42 , Marc Mayo

78 mins: RASHFORD WITH THE ICING ON THE CAKE!

It’s a horror show from Fofana as Rashford grabs his 30th goal of the season, seeing his first effort saved by Kepa before he can walk in the rebound.

21:42 , Marc Mayo

77 mins: The home fans bringing out some of their favourite chants now, “seen United and wandered off home” the chief among them. Or something like that...

21:40 , Marc Mayo

75 mins: Malacia and Enzo are booked and the game gets back underway.

 (REUTERS)
(REUTERS)

21:38 , Marc Mayo

74 mins: Some extras between Sancho and Enzo thrown in for free after an issue is taken before the restart. No idea what over, as of yet.

Even after the replay it’s hard to know what got the Chelsea man’s goat - but hard to argue with him being a bit irate after his night’s work.

GGGOOOOAAALLLL!!!! Man United 3-0 Chelsea

21:36 , Marc Mayo

72 mins: Fernandes will take it himself... HE SCORES!

That’ll be game over for Chelsea.

PENALTY!

21:35 , Marc Mayo

71 mins: United can wrap the game up here as Fofana fouls Fernandes in the box!

The Chelsea defender is beaten all ends up with a nutmeg and dangles a lazy leg, cleaning out his man!

21:35 , Marc Mayo

70 mins: The mad thing about this Chelsea performance is that, with a couple of tweaks, it’s not impossible to imagine them getting back into it and maybe even sneaking a draw.

Meanwhile, United bring Garnacho and Fred on for Martial and Eriksen.

21:33 , Marc Mayo

68 mins: Another Chelsea penalty appeal is waved away after Gallagher goes down clutching his face.

United break through Rashford but he’s beaten to it by Azpilicueta, and has looked a bit out-of-tune all evening since coming on for the injured Antony.

21:31 , Marc Mayo

66 mins: A bombastic run forward by Enzo as he stretches his legs, going toe-to-toe with Casemiro in a battle which the veteran of the two midfielders wins with a crisp slide tackle.

21:29 , Marc Mayo

64 mins: Pulisic and Felix replace Havertz and Mudryk, the German not looking at all happy as he takes his place on the bench - likely having wasted a couple of good chances tonight.

Nizaar Kinsella at Old Trafford

21:26 , Marc Mayo

Manchester United vs Chelsea is like an exhibition match.

It feels like there’s little consequence and both teams are playing to attack, entertain but without bothering to defend. It’s a good spectacle but doesn’t feel very Premier League.

21:25 , Marc Mayo

60 mins: It’s all gone a bit end to end!

First United see a chance go begging as Fernandes’ pass is turned behind Rashford, before a big penalty appeal from Madueke is rejected by Stuart Attwell.

Chance!

21:23 , Marc Mayo

59 mins: De Gea is equal to a powerful Hall effort after a short corner routine, which in fairness was right at him.

Mudryk then volleys an effort from 20 yards, which bobbles up off Martial for a lovely camera save that the home fans warmly applaud.

21:22 , Marc Mayo

58 mins: Rashford moving far from easily yet no sign of any treatment for the United attacker, who was only meant to be a doubt due to illness.

21:21 , Marc Mayo

57 mins: Wan-Bissaka has looked mighty fine tonight, this time pulling the ball out of his own corner after some intricate Chelsea build-up and driving United up to the halfway line for a throw.

21:19 , Marc Mayo

54 mins: Azpilicueta stayed down after that latest piece of last-ditch defending, but once again he’ll continue after treatment.

The ball is quickly knocked out though, with Rashford now feeling a knock.

Chance!

21:17 , Marc Mayo

52 mins: SOMEHOW it isn’t 3-0!

Malacia overlaps on Rashford and a low cross hits Eriksen for Kepa to claw it off the line, with Martial unable to stick a leg out and convert it... before Casemiro shoots narrowly wide.

21:15 , Marc Mayo

50 mins: De Gea has to scramble across his goal to deal with a bouncing Mudryk effort after a slight deflection.

And... Chelsea waste the short corner.

21:12 , Marc Mayo

48 mins: Sky Sports are reporting that a slight back injury is behind Shaw’s exit at the break.

CROSSBAR!

21:11 , Marc Mayo

47 mins: Lindelof, of all people, strolls forward and Sancho lays it off for Fernandes... off the corner of post and bar!

Chelsea have that sinking feeling

21:04 , Marc Mayo

A complete lack of composure in the box has restricted what has been far-from a bad peformance for the Blues.

Conor Gallagher, Kai Havertz and Mykhailo Mudryk have, in no particular order, all been guilty of bad misses.

Frank Lampard could introduce David Datro Fofana to add a natural goalscoring touch with there certainly a goal or two in this for Chelsea.

Man United far from perfect

20:59 , Marc Mayo

Erik ten Hag will want much more from his team in the second half, with their season far from over as they look to tie up third place and win the FA Cup final.

Poor defending for the first and, at long last, some quality delivered their second goal.

But they’ve had only 38 per cent of the ball and managed just two shots on target against a Chelsea side they’ve gifted lots of openings to.

HALF TIME! Manchester United 2-0 Chelsea

20:54 , Marc Mayo

The Red Devils are one small step away from qualifying for the Champions League.

GGGGOOOOOAAAALLLL!!!! Manchester United 2-0 Chelsea

20:52 , Marc Mayo

45+5 mins: MARTIAL IN STOPPAGE TIME!

Sancho finds the cure! Casemiro’s beautiful dink into the box finds the winger, who calmly rolls the ball to the far post for a tap-in by Martial.

A suckerpunch for Chelsea - for which they only have themselves to blame.

20:51 , Marc Mayo

45+3 mins: Sancho is the latest player to suffer from tonight’s disease, the chief symptom being a complete lack of composure in the box.

Nizaar Kinsella at Old Trafford

20:49 , Marc Mayo

Chelsea have done very well to carve Man United open on multiple occasions.

The complete lack of finishing is an issue as Conor Gallagher joins Kai Havertz and Mykhailo Mudryk in missing big chances.

Chance!

20:47 , Marc Mayo

45 mins: As six additional minutes are announced at Old Trafford, Gallagher rolls a massive chance wide!

A lovely pass by Enzo to tee him up, too.

20:46 , Marc Mayo

44 mins: Plenty of intent about the visitors as Gallagher curls a 25-yarder well off target. Can’t blame him for having a go.

20:44 , Marc Mayo

42 mins: More threat still from Chelsea as a couple of disgrunted groans emanate off the Stretford End.

However, two Madueke crosses go unmet before Wan-Bissaka expertly closes down Hall’s lash at goal.

20:42 , Marc Mayo

40 mins: Enzo squares a cute ball wide for Mudryk to run onto but, on the 18-yard line, the winger punts his ragged first touch halfway to Oldham. Goal kick.

20:40 , Marc Mayo

38 mins: A bit of drift about the game now with United firmly in second gear in possession. Maybe even first-and-a-half gear, like they’re driving those tractors with 28 gears.

20:37 , Marc Mayo

35 mins: Sancho and Rashford put United on the front foot for a second goal but Casemiro’s touch lets him down in the box.

We’ve seen a lot of that tonight..!

20:35 , Marc Mayo

33 mins: Hopeful penalty appeal from the United fans as Fofana and Fernandes tangle. Waved away.

Stuart Attwell is not told to check it by VAR.

Chance!

20:33 , Marc Mayo

32 mins: Chelsea allowed plenty of the ball since the goal but it’s on the counter again where they threaten, after a pass to Martial is neatly cut out.

Enzo finds Hall on the left for a cross that Havertz badly skews off target! He’s almost headed it further away from the net than where he was standing...

Nizaar Kinsella at Old Trafford

20:30 , Marc Mayo

Trevoh Chalobah has a word with Antony as he goes off and so did Erik ten Hag. He looked in a lot of pain.

20:29 , Marc Mayo

28 mins: Antony is back on his feet but looks in real pain on his ankle, with hands over his face as Fernandes helps attend to him.

The Brazilian departs on the stretcher. A big worry for the FA Cup final.

Nizaar Kinsella at Old Trafford

20:28 , Marc Mayo

Some concern for Manchester United as it looks like Antony is being stretchered off.

Unclear what he has done but it was a clean tackle from Trevoh Chalobah and there were no complaints from the United players.

20:27 , Marc Mayo

26 mins: It isn’t looking good at all for Antony, with Rashford preparing to come on perhaps earlier than Ten Hag would have liked.

The stretcher is out.

20:26 , Marc Mayo

24 mins: Another stoppage as Antony receives treatment after a tough-but-fair challenge by Chalobah.

20:24 , Marc Mayo

22 mins: Azpilicueta is back in the fold as this game hits a bit of a lull, both teams looking far happier on the counter meaning they are starting to not over-commit.

The onus is on Chelsea though as Madueke wins a corner off Shaw. A good little jostle, that.

Chance!

20:21 , Marc Mayo

19 mins: Antony latches onto a high ball over the top after Chalobah gets caught and the Brazilian lays a calm pass for Martial...

But his touch is poor and Chelsea get back to make the tackle!

It was Azpilicueta, who has picked up a knock for his troubles.

20:20 , Marc Mayo

18 mins: Gallagher almost the most advanced Chelsea player out of possession, spearheading the away side’s press.

United look pretty comfortable on the ball, all said. They are closing in on a guaranteed top-four finish with third place also theirs should they win.

Nizaar Kinsella at Old Trafford

20:17 , Marc Mayo

Chelsea look quite good in moments going forward but there are also plenty of moments of frustration.

Enzo Fernandez just got angry at his teammates for a lack of movement while on the ball, gesturing with his arms in frustration before releasing it.

20:17 , Marc Mayo

15 mins: A tough minute for Enzo, who looks irate at a lack of options as Chelsea begin a move. He later pings a fine crossfield pass to Madueke - which his teammate fails to control. Throw in.

20:16 , Marc Mayo

14 mins: First Gallagher slips up one end to scupper a Chelsea attack before Antony comes forward for United, losing his footing as he shoots with a trademark left-footer off the right flank.

His effort drifts harmlessly wide.

20:13 , Marc Mayo

11 mins: There is certainly something in this game for Chelsea on the break.

Once again space is in abundance with Havertz overhitting his slide-rule pass to Gallagher in the box.

United might not let them have too many more of these chances, even if Chelsea can’t make the most of them...

20:11 , Marc Mayo

9 mins: Almost a chance for two as Sancho escapes down the left, teeing up the unmarked Fernandes in the middle but he can’t gather the ball and the chance goes.

Nizaar Kinsella at Old Trafford

20:10 , Marc Mayo

Chelsea had started pretty well but look very open in a back four again. It feels like no goal threat in a back three or they’re easy to open up in a four.

There's also no excuse for the marking on that set-piece. Casemiro is devastating from those situations and has already scored a header against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

GGGOOOOOAAAALLLL!!! Manchester United 1-0 Chelsea

20:07 , Marc Mayo

6 mins: CASEMIRO!

Simple as you like for United as Eriksen lofts a free-kick into the Chelsea box and Casemiro heads home unmarked.

That’s two early goals in two games for the Brazilian!

Chance!

20:06 , Marc Mayo

4 mins: A couple of promising counters for Chelsea and Gallagher pokes a ball out for Hall, whose cross for Mudryk is on a plate...

He scuffs a shot wide!

20:04 , Marc Mayo

3 mins: Gallagher rises highest to head clear a cross after United’s first corner of the day.

Chelsea unable to play their way out of trouble so far, though.

Nizaar Kinsella at Old Trafford

20:03 , Marc Mayo

Chelsea are very much in a 4-3-3 at Old Trafford.

Generally when Frank Lampard has tried to open up he has found his side getting blown away so it is on this young group of players to show something different.

20:03 , Marc Mayo

1 min: Early giveaway by Chalobah by his area but United unable to get the ball into the box.

Frank Lampard details Enzo Fernandez sympathy

19:55 , Marc Mayo

Enzo Fernandez should be reflecting on a magnificent season, says Frank Lampard.

And yet his move to Chelsea has not gone to plan after his World Cup glory - even if the caretaker boss has backed him to star next season.

He told reporters: “I’ve got a lot of faith that Enzo will be a big part of what happens in the future of this club.

“I feel for him a little bit. He’s had a massive move to the Premier League. He’s won the World Cup. He should be sitting back at the end of this season quite rightly putting his feet up and saying: ‘What a year’.

“But in terms of how he can affect the future, I see him being essential.”

He added: “Enzo gets it. He gets what’s required in training. He gets what’s required to be a Chelsea player. He’s got a high talent. Some players just get it.”

Erik ten Hag says Chelsea are a warning to Man United

19:46 , Marc Mayo

Speaking in his pre-match press conference, Erik ten Hag was not exactly complimentary of Chelsea.

The United boss said his team must use the Blues’ poor season after a very busy transfer window as a lesson to learn.

“When there is no strategy behind it, or the right strategy, money doesn’t work,” he said.

“In this moment, let’s say there is a centralisation of good players, of the best managers, also of the money, it is all here in the UK. That makes a great competition, but also a tough and a hard competition.

“You have to do the right things. You can have money but you have to spend it in a smart way. Also, you need a strategy behind it, because otherwise the money doesn’t work.”

“I’m sure the new manager will understand what I’m saying in terms of numbers. Some might want to leave or it might be time to leave.

“The manager will come in with whatever tactical idea he has, formation or style.

“Having been here a long time, I think there are a lot of basics, standards and ethics that amongst other things have dropped down a level.

Noni Madueke not taking this game lightly

19:20 , Marc Mayo

“To come here and beat them, it’s a bit of a fortress, that would be great for our confidence for sure.

“Like every time I’ve put on a Chelsea shirt I want to show my best self and contribute to the team.”

New face in the Chelsea squad

19:16 , Marc Mayo

Teenage defender Alfie Gilchrist gets a spot on the bench tonight alongside Thiago Silva and Kalidou Koulibaly.

Benoit Badiashile is the latest player to be hit by injury issues in the Chelsea backline.

A daring line-up from Frank Lampard

19:10 , Marc Mayo

Chelsea start with a bold 4-3-3 set-up tonight that has Noni Madueke and Mykhailo Mudryk either side of Kai Havertz up front.

Lewis Hall will operate at left-back and Carney Chukwuemeka comes into the midfield, two players who could have been playing Uruguay at the Under-20 World Cup right now were they not in the Blues first-team.

Joao Felix is fit for the bench with Raheem Sterling absent after injury kept him out of the England squad.

Man United unchanged

19:08 , Marc Mayo

Marcus Rashford is only fit for the bench as Jadon Sancho remains in an unchanged starting XI for the Red Devils.

Anthony Martial leads the line with Harry Maguire among the substitutes.

Tonight’s Chelsea team

19:04 , Marc Mayo

Chelsea XI: Kepa; Azpilicueta, Chalobah, W Fofana, Hall; Enzo, Gallagher, Chukwuemeka; Madueke, Havertz, Mudryk.

Man Utd XI: De Gea; Wan-Bissaka, Varane, Lindelof, Shaw; Casemiro, Eriksen; Antony, Fernandes, Sancho; Martial.

Nizaar Kinsella at Old Trafford: Carney Chukwuemeka starts

18:59 , Marc Mayo

Carney Chukwuemeka makes his first start since January 15. He has played just 250 senior minutes since joining Chelsea with most of his 13 appearances coming from the bench.

This selection does somewhat justify Frank Lampard’s decision to withdraw him from the England Under-20s World Cup squad.
