Manchester United have lost 3-0 to Burnley in a behind-closed-doors friendly at their training ground.

According to reports, it was a team largely consisting of fringe players, thought Anthony Martial, Scott McTominay and Donny van de Beek were among the starters.

Veteran centre-back Jonny Evans also lined up against Vincent Kompany's side, an experienced head in a starting XI wihch also contained Hannibal Mejbri, Alvaro Fernandez and Facundo Pellistri.

The result will do nothing to quell the growing concerns over United’s form in the early part of the season. A narrow 1-0 win over Wolves was met by criticism given the underwhelming nature of the performance with United second-best throughout at Old Trafford.

Five days later, Tottenham produced a stellar second-half display to eventually run out convincing 2-0 winners in north London at the weekend.

It is the second behind-closed-doors friendly United have hosted at their Carrington training ground, after beating Everton 2-0 last Tuesday. An own goal and a McTominay strike was the difference.
