Manchester United: Bruno Fernandes backs Ruben Amorim for top job amid Erik ten Hag pressure at Old Trafford
Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes has tipped Sporting Lisbon boss Ruben Amorim to land a top job in European football.
Amorim has won plaudits for leading Sporting to two Portuguese Liga titles since joining the club in 2020.
The 39-year-old was linked with Liverpool before Arne Slot took over but could end up at another club in England.
Erik ten Hag is under mounting pressure at Old Trafford with United languishing in 14th place in the Premier League, while Pep Guardiola’s contract at Manchester City expires at the end of the season.
And Fernandes - who joined United from Sporting Lisbon for £68million in 2020 - believes Amorim has what it takes to manage at the highest level.
“Since Mr Amorim arrived at Sporting, it has been one of the teams to practice better football,” Fernandes told CNN Portugal.
“They have been consistent, the signings have been right and they are in a very good moment. It's a very well-prepared team.
“In relation to Amorim, it shows at this moment he is prepared. Coaching Sporting and winning championships is not easy, Sporting went 20 years without winning championships and Amorim arrived and has already won two. This shows that the work has been done well.
“If he could manage to do the same in England, Spain or anywhere else, you will never know until you get there, but I am sure his qualities are there for everyone to see.”
