'We love each other': Tennis star spills on relationship with fellow player

Gael Monfils has lifted the lid on his new romance with fellow tennis star Elina Svitolina.

Monfils and Svitolina went public with their relationship at the Australian Open in January, when the Frenchman was spotted supporting his new girlfriend courtside at Rod Laver Arena.

Monfils has now spoken out about his love for Svitolina.

“I can confirm that it’s going very good,” Monfils told French media.

“This relationship has more publicity but that’s because she is one of the best players in the world.”

Svitolina was in Bulgaria watching Monfils two weeks ago, and Monfils sit in her box this week in Dubai.

“I’m going to join her this week in Dubai,” he said. “I hope to support her, and I hope to play the men’s event next week.”

Monfils said he’d be supporting Svitolina regardless of whether she was a famous tennis player.

“With Eli, there’s happiness, really,” he said.

“For me, she’s not a tennis player. If she played football or cricket, I would still go see her in Dubai.

“We are together because we love each other.

“It’s just one more thing that we have in common and can understand some things more easily.”
