NFL trade deadline results, Week 10 news: CB Marshon Lattimore heads to Commanders, Lions acquire Za'Darius Smith from Browns

The 2024 NFL trade deadline has come and gone as the buzzer sounded at 4 p.m. ET on Tuesday.

With so many teams in the mix at the halfway point with the expanded playoffs, there was plenty of activity by contenders.

Deadline day was highlighted by the Washington Commanders acquiring four-time Pro Bowl cornerback Marshon Lattimore from the New Orleans Saints and the Detroit Lions adding edge rusher Za'Darius Smith from the Cleveland Browns.

The Pittsburgh Steelers also got into the action on Tuesday by making a pair of moves that netted receiver Mike Williams from the Jets and pass rusher Preston Smith from the Packers.

There were also a handful of smaller deals in the closing minutes before the deadline, which followed some more significant trades that took place in the prior weeks.

Most notable were three wide receiver additions: the Jets struck a deal for WR Davante Adams from the Raiders; the Bills added WR Amari Cooper from the Browns; and the Chiefs brought in WR DeAndre Hopkins from the Titans.

Here's a full list of the trades that went down this season, beginning with the most recent:

  • 49ers get DT Khalil Davis from Texans for seventh-round pick

  • Ravens improve secondary with CB Tre’Davious White from Rams

  • Steelers add D-line depth with Preston Smith from Packers

  • Steelers bolster WR corps with Mike Williams from Jets

  • Commanders send Saints three picks for CB Marshon Lattimore

  • Cowboys get WR Jonathan Mingo from Panthers amid pick swap

  • Bengals add RB Khalil Herbert for seventh-rounder from Chicago

  • Lions help pass rush by adding Za'Darius Smith from Browns

  • Cardinals add LB Baron Browning from Broncos for sixth-round pick

  • Vikings bolster O-line with Cam Robinson addition

  • Ravens acquire WR Diontae Johnson from Panthers for Day 3 pick

  • Chiefs trade for LB Joshua Uche, send sixth-round pick to Patriots

  • Chiefs trade for WR DeAndre Hopkins, send conditional fifth-rounder to Titans

  • Seahawks, Titans swap LBs as Ernest Jones IV goes to Seattle and Jerome Baker heads to Tennessee

  • Vikings acquire RB Cam Akers for conditional Day 3 pick

  • Browns trade WR Amari Cooper to Bills for pair of draft picks

  • Jets acquire Davante Adams for conditional third-round pick

  • Seahawks acquire DL Roy Robertson-Harris from Jaguars for sixth-round pick

The story of this deadline is also about the deals that didn't get done.

While there were rumors about 2023 No. 1 overall pick Bryce Young being dealt, the Panthers opted to stick with their quarterback. The same went for the Colts and QB Anthony Richardson, who reportedly drew interest from other teams.

Cooper Kupp's name was also thrown around in trade rumors, but the Rams are still connected in the NFC wild-card race, particularly after Sunday's overtime win in Seattle, and head coach Sean McVay says he wouldn't want the Super Bowl 56 MVP to leave Los Angeles.

  • Christian McCaffrey had 'no pain' after first practice back with 49ers

McCaffrey experienced "no pain" following his return to the practice field on Monday, said 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan.

The team opened up the practice window for McCaffrey on Monday. He has been out since the start of the season with Achilles tendinitis and calf tightness.

The 28-year-old running back flew to Germany in late September for treatment and a second opinion, and had been reportedly aiming for an early November return. The 49ers take on the Buccaneers on Sunday.

  • Bengals WR Tee Higgins (quad) doubtful for Thursday night

Higgins will likely miss the Bengals' game against the Ravens with a quad injury. The wide receiver has not practiced for two weeks and last played in Week 7.

Injuries have limited Higgins to only five games this season for the 4-5 Bengals, who are two games behind the Ravens in the AFC North.

  • Chiefs won't limit Patrick Mahomes (ankle) in practice

The ankle was initially injured in Week 8 against the Raiders and Mahomes aggravated it Monday night against the Buccaneers.

"When you have a little bit of a roll, it's a little bit sore,'' Mahomes said. "But I'm able to move around and look forward to getting out to practice and seeing how I can push it as the week goes on.''

Head coach Andy Reid said they will not put any limitations on Mahomes in practice this week. The Chiefs play Sunday against the Broncos.

  • Giants WR Darius Slayton (concussion) may not make trip to Germany

Slayton remains in concussion protocol ahead of the Giants' game on Sunday against the Carolina Panthers in Munich, Germany. The wide receiver was working with a trainer on the side during Wednesday's practice, but would need to progress through the protocol steps in order to have a chance to play.

  • Browns GM Andrew Berry on Deshaun Watson's future with franchise

"Really our focus with Deshaun, I would say for any player with a season-ending injury and a major injury, is first and foremost and to make sure that he gets healthy from the Achilles injury," Berry said on Wednesday. "Everything else, we'll deal with at a later moment."

Berry was asked later about if there's a chance Watson will be back with the team as its starting quarterback.

"Yeah, I think that's always possible," he said.

Watson is out for the season after tearing his right Achilles tendon in Week 7.

  • Jags QB Trevor Lawrence will be limited in practice on Wednesday

Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence is "sore," according to head coach Doug Peterson, and will practice on Wednesday, but in a limited capacity.

As for Lawrence's status for Sunday's game against the Minnesota Vikings, Peterson said it is too early to say whether the quarterback will play.

Lawrence was injured during Sunday's loss to the Philadelphia Eagles. He was seen getting treatment on the sideline and looked to injure his shoulder in the second quarter.

“A little beat up this time of the year, but relatively alright. So, we’ll assess, obviously, tomorrow morning. Some soreness sets in, and we’ll see what we’re dealing with," Lawrence said afterward. "But I was able to finish the game and felt okay. And I know there’s a lot of guys dealing with stuff, and we just have to keep pushing through. It’s that time of the year, middle of the season, and it’s tough.”

C.J. Beathard has been signed by the Jaguars from the Miami Dolphins' practice squad as insurance and to add to the team's depth at the position. The 30-year-old quarterback was released by the team in the preseason after he suffered to a groin injury

  • Full list of this season's NFL trades

With the 2024 deadline done, here's a look at every deal that went down, in order from the most recent:

    • 49ers get DT Khalil Davis from Texans for seventh-round pick

    • Ravens improve secondary with CB Tre’Davious White from Rams

    • Steelers add D-line depth with Preston Smith from Packers

    • Steelers bolster WR corps with Mike Williams from Jets

    • Browns trade WR Amari Cooper to Bills for pair of draft picks

    • Jets acquire Davante Adams for conditional third-round pick

    • Seahawks acquire DL Roy Robertson-Harris from Jaguars for sixth-round pick

  • 49ers get a deal done right before the buzzer

The 4 p.m. ET trade deadline has now passed, but San Francisco managed to sneak in a quick deal for a defensive lineman at the last minute.

  • Ravens acquiring CB Tre'Davious White from Rams

The two-time Pro Bowl cornerback is heading to the Ravens for a 2026 seventh-round pick and a 2027 seventh-round pick.

The 29-year-old White is in his eighth NFL season. He spent 2017-2023 with the Buffalo Bills before joining the Rams in the offseason. He's played four games this season and has recorded 12 total tackles and zero interceptions.

According to Tom Pelissero, the Ravens were in on Marshon Lattimore, but the cornerback ended up going to the Commanders.

  • Teams not meeting Giants' price for OLB Azeez Ojulari

Ojulari, a 2021 second-round pick, has 26 tackles, 7 for loss, and six sacks through nine games. He is in the final year of his rookie contract.

  • Bryce Young sticking with Panthers

Yahoo Sports' Charles Robinson reported this week that some executives around the NFL thought the Panthers would be open to movie the second-year QB if the right offer came across GM Dan Morgan's desk.

The offers were apparently not there and so Young, who briefly lost his starting job this season, will remain in Carolina.

  • Joe Burrow happy with Khalil Herbert acquisition

The 4-5 Bengals added Herbert from the Chicago Bears for a 2025 seventh-round draft pick.

Bengals GM Duke Tobin may not be done for the day with less than an hour remaining.

  • Report: Colts got calls on Anthony Richardson — they said no

About an hour before the deadline and this is sure to turn heads from ESPN Colts beat writer Stephen Holder:

  • Panthers WR Adam Thielen may not be on the move today

Thielen has been out since Week 3 with a hamstring injury and with the Panthers looking towards the future, he is an ideal trade candidate. The wideout's contract does not feature a no-trade clause.

  • The Green Bay perspective of the Preston Smith trade

Smith has 2.5 sacks and 2 TFL this season, and his playing time has dwindled in recent weeks. Plus, it represents some significant cap savings for the Packers in future years. Green Bay is reportedly getting a 7th-round draft pick from the Steelers in return.

  • Steelers stay aggressive, trading for Packers pass rusher Preston Smith

Pittsburgh is having a very active trade deadline day, adding Preston Smith after already striking a deal for WR Mike Williams earlier. The Smith trade is a bit surprising considering the Packers are 6-3 and very much in the NFC playoff picture.

  • Patriots also reportedly open for business

  • Teams are inquiring about multiple Titans players

At 2-6, will Tennessee be sellers?

  • Giants getting calls on OLB Azeez Ojulari

Ojulari, a 2021 second-round pick, has 26 tackles, 7 for loss, and six sacks through nine games. He is in the final year of his rookie contract.

  • Jets' Aaron Rodgers offers well-wishes to Mike Williams after trade

Mike Williams was the odd man out in the Jets wide receiver room once New York landed Davante Adams last month. It was only a matter of time before Williams got dealt, which happened Tuesday as the Jets sent him to the Steelers for a fifth-round pick in the 2025 NFL Draft.

Jets QB Aaron Rodgers had some kind words about Williams during his guest spot on "The Pat McAfee Show."

"Mike's a good guy. He'll be good in that locker room," Rodgers said Tuesday.

"Sometimes a change of scenery is great for certain guys."

  • Chiefs done for deadline after missing on CB Marshon Lattimore?

The 8-0 Chiefs were apparently in the running for CB Marshon Lattimore, who ended up landing with the Commanders.

  • Steelers acquire WR Mike Williams from Jets

The eight-year NFL veteran was in his first season with the Jets after seven years with the Los Angeles Chargers. Through nine games in New York, Williams has 166 receiving yards on 12 catches with zero touchdowns.

According to Adam Schefter, the Steelers will assume the remainder of the wideout's contract and Williams will become a free agent after the season.

  • DK Metcalf not going anywhere

One of Geno Smith's main targets will reportedly be staying in Seattle.

  • Saints trade Marshon Lattimore to Commanders

  • A little context on the Jonathan Mingo trade

  • Cowboys trade for Panthers WR Jonathan Mingo

Minutes after Cowboys owner Jerry Jones hinted that the team would be adding a receiver they "really liked" during the draft process, Tom Pelissero reported Dallas traded for WR Jonathan Mingo from the Panthers.

  • Cowboys QB Dak Prescott 'likely' headed for injured reserve

  • Jerry Jones drops hints about Cowboys deadline moves

  • Khalil Herbert seems pretty happy to be on the Bengals now

  • Bengals could make more moves

  • Bengals trade for RB Khalil Herbert after Zack Moss injury

According to Tom Pelissero, the Bears will get a 2025 seventh-round pick in exchange for Khalil Herbert.

  • Lions trading for pass-rusher Za'Darius Smith

The Lions have been looking for a new pass-rusher ever since they lost Aidan Hutchinson to a broken leg in Week 6, and Tuesday they found one in Za'Darius Smith.

The Lions traded with the Browns to bring Smith to Detroit, reportedly sending a 2025 fifth-round pick and a 2026 sixth-round draft pick to Cleveland, while Cleveland is sending Smith and a 2026 seventh-round pick.

Smith was among the top pass-rushers in demand at the NFL trade deadline and is under contract through the 2025 season, reflecting what the Lions had to trade to get him.

Smith has five sacks in nine games with the Browns this season with 23 tackles, five tackles for loss and six quarterback hits. During his NFL career, Smith has compiled 65 sacks in 181 games (88 starts) over 10 seasons with the Baltimore Ravens, Green Bay Packers, Minnesota Vikings and Browns.

  • Cowboys' CeeDee Lamb getting testing on shoulder

  • Christian McCaffrey is back at practice, could play Sunday vs. Bucs

After missing the first half of the season, San Francisco 49ers running back Christian McCaffrey might finally be coming back.

McCaffrey, who has been out since the start of the season with Achilles tendinitis and calf tightness, returned to San Francisco's practice on Monday after nearly two months on injured reserve. The 49ers officially opened the reserve practice window for McCaffrey on Monday.

  • Report: Dak Prescott to miss multiple weeks with hamstring injury

This might influence what the Cowboys do or don't do in the walk-up to the NFL trade deadline on Tuesday: Quarterback Dak Prescott's hamstring injury is more serious than initially projected, and he's expected to miss multiple weeks, per NFL Network's Tom Pelissero.

In an analysis of the Cowboys' trade deadline prospects, Yahoo Sports' Jori Epstein wrote:

If the Cowboys are trading to help a 2024 roster that has sustained injuries to its two top players on offense and three top players on defense, the decision seems short-sighted. At 3-5, the Cowboys have a 4 percent chance of making the playoffs, per The Athletic’s playoff predictor. Competing against the 7-2 Washington Commanders and 6-2 Philadelphia Eagles, the Cowboys’ chance of winning the NFC East is less than 1 percent. This franchise has reached the playoffs each of the past three years. A mere playoff berth, that Dallas looks unlikely to win, does not support the development cost.

  • Saints fire head coach Dennis Allen after 2-7 start

After falling to a 2-7 record, the New Orleans Saints are making some big moves ahead of the trade deadline — on the coaching staff.

The Saints fired head coach Dennis Allen on Monday after three seasons. New Orleans started off well, going 2-0 to start the season, but have lost their last seven, including games against mediocre opponents (Denver Broncos, Carolina Panthers) that could — or perhaps should — have been easy wins.

With Allen out, special teams coach Darren Rizzi will take over as interim head coach.

  • Jerry Jones hints at potential trade deadline activity

The 3-5 Dallas Cowboys have been falling short of expectations, capped by a loss to the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday. As the team struggles with the run game, red zone defense and other key areas on the field, owner Jerry Jones should be looking to make a few moves before the deadline.

“We’ll probably do a couple things this week,” Jones told reporters outside the postgame locker room, per Yahoo Sports' Jori Epstein. “If things work out for us the way we’d like for them to.”

With the season on the line — plus Dak Prescott being questionable with an injury — Cowboys will have to figure how to treat these trades, and whether to go for long-term or short-term success.

  • Seven NFL teams that should make a play for Bryce Young

One big trade target for this deadline is Carolina Panthers quarterback Bryce Young. The 23-year-old play-caller has struggled to gain his footing at Carolina, but has made steps forward in recent weeks. With the Panthers tepid about Young's future with the team, there are a number of teams who could use a young talent like Young.

Everyone knew the Detroit Lions were in the market for a defensive lineman after star Aidan Hutchinson suffered a season-ending leg injury on Oct. 13. Could that remedy be the Cleveland Browns' Za'Darius Smith?

    From Pro Football Talk:

Per a source with knowledge of the situation, the current expectation is that Smith will be traded to Detroit tonight [Sundayor tomorrow.

Smith, 32, has played for the Ravens, Packers, and Vikings. He has said he'd welcome a trade to Detroit, since it would allow him to compete directly with two of his former teams.
