LeSean McCoy's tiny tip about to pay dividends

The staff of the Philadelphia restaurant on the receiving end of NFL player LeSean McCoy’s controversial 20-cent tip have found themselves on the verge of an unexpected payday.

The receipt detailing McCoy’s now-infamous tip at restaurant PYT is up for sale on eBay and as of Wednesday morning, Australian time, it had achieved a top bid of $US100,000.

According to the eBay advertisement, the proceeds from the sale will become “…the largest tip possible to all PYT employees for their hard work and dedication.”

“Not only do you get to keep a memento of weird current events/social media history but you also get an autograph from incredibly talented Philadelphia Eagles running back, LeSean McCoy,” the item description reads.

The seller, reportedly a friend of PYT owner Tommy Up, claims the sale is to “…ensure something positive comes out of this somewhat negative action.”

The controversy began last week after Up posted a photo of the receipt on Facebook with a message shaming McCoy over his tiny tip.

McCoy, who signed a five-year, $US45 million contract extension with Philadelphia Eagles in 2012, hit back by claiming the tip was in response to poor service at the restaurant.

As the story went viral, actor Charlie Sheen weighed in on Twitter, pledging a $US1000 tip to the PYT waiter in question.

McCoy is not the only professional athlete who has come under fire for recent tipping activities.

Champion boxer Floyd Mayweather also attracted criticism for failing to tip a waitress only hours after winning a $32 million prize fight last Saturday.
