NRL star treated for blood clot on the brain

Sharks star Reece Williams is hospitalised recovering from a blood clot to his brain after suffering concussion against the Eels on Sunday.

The Daily Telegraph reports the player - who is struggling to talk and suffering from headaches - now finds his immediate playing future is in doubt as doctors try to rehabilitate him.

Sharks coach Ricky Stuart said Williams' health was top priority and there were no plans to rush him back into service for the stuggling club.

The Telegraph revealed Williams has played on in recent weeks despite suffering two other head-knocks.

The 24-year-old struggled to recover his feet after a regulation hit up early on in the round 21 match against the Eels.

The club's doctor, Dave Givney, told the Telegraph the concussion was not like any he'd encountered before.

"Playing footy again is the least of his worries right now", he said.

"We just hope there's no ill-effects to his long-term future."

Williams joins a swag of senior Sharks players who have been ousted from the team through injury. Among them, Prop Ben Ross who was treated for a serious neck injury earlier this season.
