Queensland winger Darius Boyd scored first for the Maroons in game I when he finished off an impressive backline movement in just the fifth minute.

Brett Morris replied for the Blues in the 19th minute but dislocated his shoulder putting the ball down.

Fullback Jarryd Hayne gave the Blues the lead in the 33rd minute when he wriggled free from some Maroons defenders, much to the dismay of Boyd.

Boyd got Queensland back in the game when he snuck past the injured Morris, but the Maroons trailed 12-8.

Josh Reynolds and Beau Scott were penalised for the sickening tackle on Brent Tate.

In the dying stages with the game on the line, Morris pulled off this miraculous tackle on Boyd to hold him up and preserve the lead.

The Blues withstood a 10-minute Queensland barrage to take game I.

Tate was forced to leave the field late in the game with a recurrence of a knee injury.

Thaiday looked to have sealed the win for Queensland, but a desperate tackle from Hayne dislodged the ball.

With just 10 minutes remaining, NSW halfback Trent Hodkinson dummied and scored to level things at 4-4.

The rookie then slotted the tough conversion to put the Blues ahead.

Tensions spilled over as time wound down.

The Maroons had one final play but Hayne managed to corral the kick and run the ball dead.
