Big Mal comically takes down competing journos

A pair of journalists became the butt of Mal Meninga's joke during the Kangaroos' post-match press conference at the Rugby League World Cup on Friday night.

The Kangaroos advanced to the semi-finals of the tournament with an easy 46-0 win over Samoa in Darwin.

Meninga wanted his team to entertain in the Top End and Australia treated the sellout 13,473 crowd in Darwin to an impressive eight-try rout to move into the final four.

But it was 'Big Mal' who turned entertainer in the Kangaroos' post-match presser when two reporters spoke over the top of one another as they tried to ask the coach a question.

"Oh no you go first," Meninga said in a mocking tone as the media gallery broke out in laughter.

"It's happened in every presser right?" Australia captain Cameron Smith chimed in.

"Yeah every presser," Meninga continued.

"They sit together too. It's lovely isn't it? Are you in the same room too?"

More laughter filled the room as one of the reporters questioned whether they were now the focus of the press conference, rather than the triumphant Kangaroos.

Valentine Holmes was the star of the show in Australia's quarter-final demolition job against Samoa, which sent an ominous warning to their RLWC rivals.

Holmes broke the Australian record for most tries in a Test, surpassing eight players on four, including teammate Wade Graham who achieved the feat two weeks ago.

Michael Morgan scored a first-half double, while Billy Slater also went on the scoresheet in what was easily Australia's best attacking display of the tournament.

The Kangaroos will move to Brisbane to face the winner of the quarter-final between New Zealand and Fiji.
