Rugby league player KO's referee in shocking attack

A French rugby league player is facing a massive ban after knocking out a referee cold in a sickening one-punch attack.

The incident occurred in a French Cup juniors semi-final recently between Saint-Esteve and Toulouse.

The player from Saint-Esteve had just been sent off when he walked past referee Benjamin Casty and delivered the brutal blow.

The match was abandoned and Casty, who is the brother of former Sydney Roosters forward Remi, was immediately taken to hospital.

He managed to avoid a broken jaw.

The player was reportedly playing his first game back from suspension.

"I hope that the National Disciplinary Commission, which will meet on Wednesday, will prove uncompromising," said Marc Palanques, president of the French Federation.

The player then turned his anger on the opposition. Image: Twitter

"You won't be needing boots again for life that is mate."
