Taupau wants to join Hayne in NFL

Martin Taupau has a burning desire to pursue a dream of playing American football and can't guarantee he'll be at the Wests Tigers next season.

Taupau has been a wrecking ball for a disappointing Tigers outfit this season but admits he is "itching" for a chance to play in the NFL.

"(Hayne has) paved the way for NRL players," Taupau told 7 News.

"For myself I'm itching to go over there."

The prop is still contracted to the Tigers for next season but says he wants to test himself much like Hayne did in the NFL Scouting Combine next year with an eye on being selected.

"I've given it a lot of thought and incorporated a lot of drills that they over in the NFL with agility and put that onto my training as well," he said.

"I would love to go over there when the Combine starts next year and see how I go up against the best."
