Shocking video of Jamil Hopoate assault released

Shocking video has been released showing the violent attack that led to rising NRL player Jamil Hopoate being jailed.

A Sydney court has been shown the victim being blindsided and falling to the ground.

It's there Jamil Hopoate joins the attack.

The other men involved in the unprovoked assault on Alexander Christie faced sentencing today.

One of the other men involved is John Akaulo, whose defence lawyer said his client "was in the process of rebuilding his life after a long jail sentence and wanted to pursue a career in football."

But the prosecution argued Akualo had "a significant record of violence and anger management as well as alcohol problems."

Former NRL player Hopoate has already been jailed for a year over the attack.

The second eldest son of former NRL bad boy John pleaded guilty to two counts of assault occasioning actual bodily harm in December.
