Kate Upton launches Twitter tirade after MLB star boyfriend's awards snub
Hollywood model and actress Kate Upton has made headlines in the sporting world for launching a vicious Twitter tirade against the MLB in defence of her boyfriend, Detroit Tigers pitcher Justin Verlander.
Verlander missed out on the American League Cy Young award despite receiving more first-place votes from the Baseball Writers Associate of America than any other nominated player.
It was Boston Red Sox right-hander Rick Porcello who took out the award, even though he scored only eight first-place votes compared to Verlander’s 14.
Two voters, Fred Goodall and Bill Chastain, didn’t put Verlander on their ballots at all, resulting in the outcome that shocked the league and infuriated Ms Upton.
“Hey @MLB I thought I was the only person allowed to f*** @JustinVerlander?! What 2 writers didn’t have him on their ballot?” she wrote.
“He had the majority of 1st place vote and 2 writers didn’t have him on their ballots?!! Can you pick more out of touch people to vote?”
Porcello beat Verlander in the overall vote by only five points.
The stunning results made Verlander the first American League player to receive the most first-place votes for the Cy Young award without winning it.
