Little is known about Garner's role, except that she'll be playing a version of Shalla-Bal. In Marvel Comics lore, Shalla-Bal was the interstellar love interest of Norrin Radd, the original Silver Surfer, but she herself took up the mantle in other stories. Deadline Hollywood first reported Garner's casting.

Garner is best known for starring as Ruth Langmore on Netflix's drug drama Ozark, winning multiple Emmys for the role. Her other screen credits include Modern Love, The Assistant, and Inventing Anna, and she's set to appear in Leigh Whannell's 2025 horror film Wolf Man.

Production on Fantastic Four is expected to begin later this year, with the film set to hit theaters July 25, 2025.
