Jonah Bolden joins 76ers to become Australia's newest NBA star

Australia, you officially have a new NBA star.

Jonah Bolden has signed a four-year contract with the Philadelphia 76ers worth US$7 million, reports Yahoo Sports’ Shams Charania.

The deal comes a year after Bolden, the son of NBL legend Bruce Bolden, was drafted by the NBA team and spent a year developing his game in Israel.

The 22-year-old power forward will team up with Australian star Ben Simmons, who recently won the NBA’s Rookie of the Year award.

Bolden had been expected to sign for Philadelphia after impressing at Summer League, a pre-season tournament for NBA teams’ young players.

He is the 10th Australian to join the NBA for the 2018-19 season after sharpshooter Ryan Broekhoff left his European team to join the Dallas Mavericks.
